ES boys golfers take third at Cameron
The Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf team nearly brought home a second-place finish from last week’s Cameron Tournament.
Led by an 82 from junior Jacob Schmidt, the Tigers shot a combined 469 at the April 5 competition, held at the Cameron Veterans Memorial Golf Course. They finished third – one stroke behind runner-up Gallatin. Chillicothe took the team title with a 354.
“The boys really had to fight through a very windy day today,” coach David Stalder said.
Schmidt finished second in the individual standings. In other Excelsior Springs results, senior Ryan Gluhm finished his 18-hole round with a 92 to tie for 18th. Sophomore Landon Biermann tied for 21st with a 95. Junior Gage Simmons tied for 24th with a 97 and sophomore Tayvion Kennedy tied for 35th with a 103.
“It was another day where our short game cost us some strokes, and we will continue to work to improve that part of our game,” Stalder said.
