Bedford keeps skills sharp during summer

Kaelan Bedford isn’t resting after helping Excelsior Springs secure a historic third-place finish in the Class 4 state baseball tournament. Bedford, who finished his first year of high school this spring, provided the bases-loaded, walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave the Tigers a 6-5 win over Fulton in the Class 4 third-place game June 1 at Sky Bacon Stadium in Ozark. He also was Excelsior Springs’ starting pitcher and played third base for the last 3.2 innings of the ballgame – the first time the Tigers placed third without a coin toss being involved, according to coach Aaron Holst and teammate Ryne Marcum (see also June 9 issue). With the high school baseball season completed, Bedford is focusing on club baseball. Bedford has traveled the country playing club baseball since age 4.
