‘Family atmosphere’ draws ESHS senior to wrestling

Alyssa Betts knows she’ll miss high school athletics when she graduates in May 2024 from Excelsior Springs. And she’ll especially miss wrestling. “I have spent the last three years in the wrestling room, and I won’t know what to do with myself when I don’t come here every day,” she said. Betts has wrestled for the Excelsior Springs girls program since her sophomore year. She also has been a part of the school softball and track programs for two years. Outside of sports, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Northland CAPS program. “Wrestling is my favorite because it is such a family atmosphere,” Betts said. “We can roughhouse on the mat and get mad at each other in the room, but at the end of the day, we know we are family and just trying to make each other better.” One of Betts’ favorite wrestling-related memories occurred her junior year during the Excelsior Springs Tiger Classic boys tournament....
