Kathy Marcum

Kathy Lynn (Whitaker) Marcum, 68, of Excelsior Springs passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024. A celebration of life will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Bross and Spidle Chapels in Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Bross and Spidle, with a graveside service to follow.

Kathy was born Oct. 19, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, to Clayton and Rita Whitaker. She was the oldest of three children.

She graduated from Northridge High School in Dayton. After high school, she met the love of her life, Patrick Marcum, and they married June 14, 1975. From this day, they were blessed with three beautiful children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kathy worked numerous jobs during her lifetime. But 15 years ago, she started working at KC Sports, where she could fulfill her love of baseball.

She was strong-willed, stubborn and a fighter, but she also had an enormous heart and loved her family dearly. The light of her eyes were her grandchildren, and you would always find Kathy and Pat at their sporting events, no matter the circumstances. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren, and every one of them held a special place in her heart.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Whitaker (2015).

Kathy is survived by her husband, Patrick Marcum; mother, Rita Whitaker; and siblings, Rick (Patrece) Whitaker and Pat (Anna) Whitaker. Other survivors include her children, Chris (Cadi) Marcum, Shaun (Stephanie) Marcum and Danielle (Troy) Hudlemeyer; grandchildren, Caden and Taryn Marcum, Jace (Brianna) Trumbly, Ryne, Landon and Calan Marcum, and Ryliee and Kinsliee Hudlemeyer; and great-grandchild, Oaklee Trumbly.
