Camp sparks reflection, calls to action
I’ve got soccer on the brain again, thanks in part to a recent assignment.As you might recall, I covered a soccer camp in late May at Tiger Stadium. I interviewed Brett McKenzie, the Excelsior Springs varsity girls coach, who also has been Zac Ganzer’s assistant coach for the Excelsior Springs boys program. In addition, I interviewed two high school athletes – Brady Schoonover and Maddie Wenz. After conducting the interviews, I took some pictures of campers training and scrimmaging, one of which is included here. Look for one or two more of them to run June 27 in a summer training photo spread. Watching the campers kick the ball around prompted me to think about my own relationship with soccer – or “the beautiful game,” as it’s often called.
