Council invests in city services
Major investments in transportation, public safety and trash collection topped the agenda as the Excelsior Springs City Council approved nearly $1 million in spending which will benefit residents citywide.From buying new buses to expanding street repairs and renewing the city’s insurance policies, council members noted the decisions were necessary to keep core services running smoothly in the year ahead. They also finalized a new agreement to keep school resource officers in local schools and temporarily extended the city’s solid waste contract.City Manager Molly McGovern presented the evening’s largest financial decision – a resolution to renew the city’s insurance coverage for property, liability and workers’ compensation. The new package represents a 16% increase over the prior year, which McGovern attributed to rising claims, especially in workers’ compensation.
