City pushes forward on infrastructure, revitalization projects

Plans for Excelsior Springs’ expanding trail system advanced this week as the City Council approved a change order to repair unstable soil along the Dry Fork Greenway, one of the city’s largest park and transportation projects.Public Works Director Chad Birdsong told council members that crews encountered unsuitable subgrade in the roadway near Kennedy Avenue, requiring additional excavation and replacement with new aggregate. The work covers 158.33 square yards of one-foot excavation and 66 square yards of two-foot excavation, totaling $17,220.84. The adjustment increases the project’s total contract price with Mega KC Corporation to $4,296,561.96, leaving $2,887.04 available for future changes.City documents show engineering firm GBA recommended approval, noting roughly $20,000 remained in the budget to cover the work.
