Despite continued opposition from nearby residents, the Mosby Board of Aldermen approved an amendment adding underground mining and deep mining of materials, including limestone, as permitted uses in the city’s M3 heavy industrial district.

The recent hearing included testimony from several additional residents before aldermen unanimously voted to approve the amendment. Lane Lee told the board one of its members had previously visited his home during a blast and witnessed the conditions firsthand. However, he said the impacts have worsened since that visit.

“At the time, he seemed surprised it was as loud as it was,” said Lee. “Well, let me tell you, it’s a lot worse now and we have it a lot more often now.”

Lee repeatedly urged the board to reject the amendment.
