Excelsior Springs is preparing for an improvement project aimed at adding redundancy to the city’s water treatment system and restoring full use of existing equipment.

City Council members recently approved a contract with David E. Ross Construction Co. for the Lime Slaker Improvement Project at the city’s water treatment plant.

Public Works Director Chad Birdsong explained the project includes installing a new lime slaker and making repairs to the existing lime silo, lime room and RDP slaker.

The new slaker will provide redundancy within the water treatment system and allow the city to once again use the full capacity of the original lime silo. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has reviewed the city’s permit application and approved the construction plans.

The city received three bids for the project, with David E. Ross Construction submitting the lowest bid at $752,800. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $770,000.
