Marian Bradshaw
Marian Esther Bradshaw, 78, Gladstone, Mo., died Monday, March 24, 2008, at her home. Ms. Bradshaw was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Lock Springs, the daughter of Grover E. and Mary Lee (Eads) Bradshaw. She was a section manager for Hallmark Cards, retiring in 1987 after 38 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother. Survivors include two brothers, Howard E. Bradshaw, Excelsior Springs, and Ritchie D. Bradshaw, Blue Springs; four sisters, Ruby Williams, Kansas City, Kan., Nadine Stamper, Utica, Mo., Dixie Vitt, Lawrence, Kan., and Helen Bradshaw, of the home; and other family members. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 31, at First United Methodist Church of North Kansas City. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to NorthCare Hospice or the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
Jim Butler
Earnest Jim Allen Butler, 88, Spring Hill, Kan., died Monday, March 10, 2008, at his home. Mr. Butler was the son of James and Laura Butler. He was a farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Allen Lee Butler. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bettie; one daughter, JoAnna Lichtenberg, Sunrise Beach; two sons, Robert Butler, Kearney, Mo., and James Butler, Spring Hill, Kan.; one sister, Irene Rollins, Lawton, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home in Olathe, Kan. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Lucille Cates
Lucille Cates, 93, Kearney, Mo., died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. Cates was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Clay County, the daughter of Thomas and America Hendrix Porter. She was married to Dean Cates on Sept. 30, 1933, and they farmed together until his death in 1989. In 1942, they founded Cates Auction Company, which is still owned and operated by the family. She was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dickie Dean Cates and Billy Joe Cates; six brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include five daughters, Betty Ann Downing, Plattsburg, and Judy Fishback, Janet Cates, Tammy Ritter and Sallie Cates, all of Kearney; a sister, Gertrude Endicott, Kearney; a brother, Clay Porter, Kansas City; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Providence Baptist Church in Kansas City; burial in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Chapel in Kearney.
Leneve Clasen
Leneve June Clasen, 65, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at her home in Lawson, Mo. where she had been a lifelong resident of the community. She was born August 5, 1942, in Lawson, the daughter of Raymond Roger and Nancy Ruth (Rogers) Peterson. Leneve worked in customer service much of her vocational career, most recently with Cole-Harford for 18 years. She also served as organist and pianist for the Lawson Methodist Church for 52 years until her passing. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband of 23 years, David Clasen; her mother, Nancy Ruth Peterson, Lawson; a daughter, Shannon Stroud, Excelsior Springs; two sons, Pastor Kirk Baker and Brent Baker, both of Lawson; two stepdaughters, Jennifer West, Leawood, Kan., and Julie Jackson, Smithville; a stepson, Gerald Clasen, Smithville; a sister, Becky Hartman, Lawson; eight grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Lawson Baptist Church, with memorial services at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at the church. Burial will be in the Lawson Cemetery. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Learning Lighthouse Preschool of Lawson, Mo.
*Beverly Creason
Beverly J. Creason, 90, of Polo, Mo., died at 1:06 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Mo. Mrs. Creason was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Fleming, Mo., to Olie and Adra Olive (Orr) Johnson. She married Harold Robert Creason of Orrick, Mo., on March 3, 1936; he preceded her in death on April 2, 1986. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, John G. and Wilma Creason of Excelsior Springs; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Larry Kincaid of Polo, Mo., Olinda and Lloyd Cash of Fayette, Mo., and Olive and Don Malter of Marshall, Mo.; one brother, Andrew O. Johnson of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Jonna and Tim Yates, David Creason, Paul and Tammy Rowland, Pamella and B.J. Jones, Mary J. Kincaid, Donna and Aaron Miller, and Leslie Malter; six great-grandchildren, Amber and Dustin Borchert, Mikala Rowland, Robert Rowland, Sean Rowland, Rosa Jones, and Caleb Miller; and two great-great-grandchildren, Collin and Carter Borchert. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Robin Denise McKinney. Mrs. Creason worked for Fowler Bus Line as a bus driver for 25 years. She also sold Stanley Home products for 25 years. She was a member of the Missouri Bowling Hall of Fame. She was a 1936 graduate of Camden (Mo.) High School. She was a member of the Polo First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Polo First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick, Mo. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Polo Nutrition Center of Polo Baptist Church.

Myrtle Pat Bentley Dean died Saturday, March 29, 2008. Survivors include many relatives, including daughter Theresa Bentley, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kan.; burial in the Blevins Family Cemetery.

Amy Elizabeth Douglas, 95, Mosby, Mo., passed away Friday, March 21, 2008, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Amy was born April 17, 1912, in Smallett, Mo., to Claud and Matilda Wimmer Phipps. She married Ivan M. Douglas in Ava, Mo., on July 30, 1932. They lived most of their married life in Mosby, Mo. She was a member of the Mosby Baptist Church since 1932. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the church. Her life was spent in dedication to her family and church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan; her son, J.C. Douglas; six brothers; five sisters; two grandchildren; and one son-in-law. Survivors include three daughters, Nora Mae Edwards and Bob of Ava, Mo., Georgia Gillham of Kansas City, Mo., and Betty Cazzell of Mosby, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Stephen Cazzell and Julie of Mosby, Mo., Connie Montagna and Mike of Winchester, Calif., Kevin Cazzell and Sherry of Lawson, Mo., Randy Cazzell and Debbie of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Mark Cazzell and Lori of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Rick Smith and Kim of Sugarland, Texas, David Smith and Robyn of Liberty, Mo., and Jacinda Walker and David of Ava, Mo.; five stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a host of other relatives of friends. Luther R. Douglass, 88, Liberty, Mo., died Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Burial in New Hope Cemetery in Liberty.
*Ronald Duncan
Ronald Loren Duncan, 79, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Ronald was born June 24, 1928, in Ray County, the son of Franklin and Sarah (ODell) Duncan. On July 20, 1947, he married Gladys Louise Jackson. He was a member and Deacon of the Old New Garden Church. He retired from the Excelsior Springs Post Office as the Postmaster after 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Thomas Duncan; and three sisters, Opal Werle, Frances Werle, and Velma Matthews. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gladys Louise Jackson; children, Donnie Duncan, Carolyn Bethards, Betty Williams, Mary Lancaster, Barry Duncan and Richie Duncan; sisters, Ruth Robb and Norma Ellerman; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the Old New Garden Primitive Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo. George E. Ellett
George Edward Hair Ellett, 54, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, March 14, 2008, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Ellett was born March 30, 1953, in Quindara, Kan., the son of Herbert Hadley and Alice Fredda Calvert Ellett. He was a lifelong member of the Excelsior Springs community. He had been employed for 30 years by the Missouri State Highway Department, from which he retired in November 2007. He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Ellett, in 2001; two brothers, Ronnie Ellett, in 2002, and Lawrence Dean Ellett, in 1966; and his grandparents, Moses and Freda Ellett and the Rev. and Mrs. W.R. Palmer. Survivors include his mother, Alice Ellett, Excelsior Springs; one brother, Terry Ellett, Rayville; one sister, Vanessa Johnson, Kansas City; one son, Brian A. Nelson, Tulsa, Okla.; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
*Randall Elliott
Randall V. Elliott, 77, lifelong Lawson area resident, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Randall was born on Jan. 12, 1931, in Lawson, Mo., the son of Thomas Vern and Nellie Lena (Mayes) Elliott. He was married to Jolene Sweatman on June 4, 1949, in Gallatin, Mo. He was a member of the Vibbard Christian Union Church, where he was an Elder. He served on the Lawson Housing Authority Board and the Ray County Transportation Board for several years. Randall was a home builder and worked in plant maintenance for TWA, retiring after 23 years. For the past six years, he ran an office for Blue Highway Transportation. Survivors include his wife, Jolene Elliott, of the home; son, Fred Elliott and his wife, Anne, of Miami, Fla.; his sister, Ethenell McKee and her husband, Paul, of Rayville, Mo.; one brother, Lowell Buck Elliott and his wife, Sharon, of Lawson; and a sister, Darlene ODell and her husband, Ralph, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; grandchildren, Christopher Elliott and wife, Jennifer, Brandy Cooper and husband, Spence, stepgrandchildren, Adrianne Johnson, Tim Johnson and his wife, Marji; and three great-grandchildren, Sean and Elizabeth Elliott and Lynnlee Johnson, along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the Vibbard Christian Union Church in Vibbard, Mo. Burial will be in the Lawson Cemetery in Lawson, Mo. There was no scheduled family visitation; however, friends were invited to call anytime after 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson, Mo. Elizabeth Maurine Ferguson, 67, Lawson, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., after a long, hard battle with cancer. Elizabeth was born on Jan. 20, 1941, in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Dorothy (Jackson) Bush. She attended school in Taylor County, Iowa. She was married to Noel Ferguson on June 14, 1975, in Kansas City, Mo. She was founder and former owner of Ferguson Tax and Accounting in Lawson, Mo. She also had Famous Mums by Lizz. Elizabeth was a member of the Lawson United Methodist Church and for many years was a member of Rotary and P.E.O. in Lawson. Survivors include her husband, Noel Ferguson, of the home; three sons, Robert Rohlfs and wife, Chris, of Liberty, Mo., Mark Rohlfs and wife, Jennifer, of Lawson, Mo., and Ben Ferguson, of Lawson, Mo.; one brother, John Bush and wife, Deb, of Warrensburg, Mo.; two sisters, Karen Youngston and husband, Gordon, of Sealy, Texas, and Nancy Piper and husband, Gary, of Platte City, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Drew Rohlfs, Blane Rohlfs and Brock Rohlfs. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Andrew Rohlfs, in 1983. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Lawson United Methodist Church in Lawson, Mo. Ada Catherine Gemmer, 101, formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Ms. Gemmer was born May 19, 1906, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of John J. and Pearl L. (Roup) Angsten. She moved to Bella Vista in 1971. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bentonville, Ark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Charles Gemmer, on Jan. 2, 1998; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one son, Herman John Gemmer, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one sister, Mary Jean Ermey, Glenn Rock, N.Y.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. *Fauntine Gleason
Fauntine Ann Gleason, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Sunset Lake Convalescent Center in Venice, Fla. Fauntine was born on March 11, 1921, in Grundy County, Mo. An Excelsior Springs resident since 1941, she and her husband, Frank, owned and operated the Gleason Lumber Company and Frank Gleason Ceramic Molds. She was a lifelong member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church historian, and editor of the church newsletter. She was not only a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, but a friend to everyone she ever met. She will truly be missed. Fauntine was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include her sons, Jim and wife, Linda, and their daughters, Jill and Genna, all of Liberty, Mo., and Terry and his wife, Sherri, and their daughters, Alyssa and Tara, all of Flower Mound, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Doug Hatfield
Douglas Paul Hatfield, 48, formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Truman Medical Center. Doug was born April 27, 1959, in Excelsior Springs, the son of George and Judy Hatfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mickie Denison. Doug is survived by his brother, Kem Hatfield, Emporia, Kan.; his sister, Vickie Callahan, Americus, Kan.; and his siblings families. Private burial will be near his surviving families homes in Kansas.
Rita Holey
Mary Maretta Rita Hankins Holey, 81, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Lawson Manor in Lawson, Mo. Ms. Holey was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Relsor, Ark., she was the daughter of Lester and Cora Belle Hampton Adams. She was married to Clovis Hankins, and to this marriage seven children were born. In 1983 she was married to William Bill Holey, who preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Holey worked for Whitaker Cable in Excelsior Springs for 15 years before she retired in 1985. She had also worked for the Lane sewing factory and as a housekeeper at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Hankins; three brothers, Toy Adams, Donnely Adams and Odell Adams; and one sister, Ethel Gunner. Survivors include two sons, Larry James Hankins, Richmond, and Gary Hankins, Henrietta; four daughters, Connie Robinette, Kearney, Carol Llewellyn, Excelsior Springs, Cheryl Schimmel, Cowgill, and Carla Strickland, Dover, Ark.; three sisters, Velma Settles, OFallon, and Faye Dick and Sharon Baughman, both of Sherman, Texas; four brothers, Hoyle Adams, Russellville, Ark., Arnold Adams, Austin, Texas, Kenneth Adams, Albuquerque, N.M., and Darrell Adams, Texas; 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hardy Oak Cemetery in Jefferson County, Kan., near Lawrence, with burial following. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
Anita Howe
Anita Briscoe Howe, 55, Liberty, Mo., died Sunday, March 23, 2008. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at the chapel. Interment will take place in Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs.
*Donald Hurshman
Donald Eugene Hurshman, 72, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away at his home Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Donald was born May 28, 1935, to David and Gladys (Vance) Hurshman of Orrick, Mo. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1952, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a Chief Gunnersmate. On June 28, 1960, in Yokohama, Japan, Donald married Hisako Watanuki. Donald loved to work in his garden, and was a devoted and loving husband. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy Hurshman; and sister, Charlotte Hurshman. Donald is survived by his wife, Hisako Hurshman, of the home; sons, Mike Hurshman and wife, Brenda, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Kenneth T. Hurshman and wife, Brenda, Rayville, Mo.; brothers, Kenneth Hurshman, Orrick, Mo., and Chester Hurshman, Holden, Mo.; sisters, Juanita Baker, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Lola Negaard, Palmdale, Calif.; grandchildren, Tina Wheeler, Oak Grove, Mo., Derrek Hurshman, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Sarah Hurshman, Rayville, Mo., and Tyler Hurshman, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; and great-grandchildren, Michael Wheeler, Oak Grove, Mo., Matthew Wheeler, Oak Grove, Mo. and Marcus Wheeler, Oak Grove, Mo. A Celebration of Life will be held for Donald at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Ray Huttsell, 94, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at New Hope Cemetery in Liberty. Arrangements are through Marts Memorial Services in Kansas City.

Edward Myles Johnson Jr., 50, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, March 13, 2008. Survivors include his significant other of 15 years, T. Pigg; his daughter, Danielle M. Johnson; and other relatives and friends. Arrangements are through Marts Memorial Services in Kansas City.

Harvey Isenhour
Harvey W. Isenhour, 66, Missouri City, Mo., died Monday, March 3, 2008, at his home. Mr. Isenhour was born Aug. 29, 1941, near Liberty, the son of James Edward and Joyce Arlene (Vest) Isenhour. He was married to Helen Jennings on June 2, 1962. He was retired from General Motors, where he worked for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Isenhour; a son, Jerry Isenhour, Independence; two daughters, Doris Selle, Missouri City, and Vicky Klein, Excelsior Springs; two brothers, Harold Isenhour, Orrick, and Wayne Isenhour, Vibbard; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
Thelma Kelley
Thelma A. Kelley, 93, Lawson, Mo., died Monday, March 10, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Ms. Kelley was born April 24, 1914, the daughter of Virgil and Bertha (Swearingin) Thomas of Camden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernie Kelley; four brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one daughter, Lula Jones, Lathrop; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs. A visitation will be held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will take place at the Cravens Cemetery in Camden. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
Norma Kelly
Norma J. Kelly, 80, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Ms. Kelly was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Hollis and Anna (Lorting) Howard. She was married to Richard William Kelly on Oct. 11, 1947; he died Jan. 19, 1975. She was a longtime employee of the Clay County Juvenile Office. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Ann Kelly, on Dec. 2, 2000. Survivors include three sons, Chris Kelly, Maryland, Richard Andy Kelly, Liberty, and Patrick Kelly, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Cremation. Carolyn Sue Carol Leslie, 55, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan. Mrs. Leslie was born May 3, 1952, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Charles Dewey and Nina Lou (Rowland) Lewis. She was married to Kenneth Lavern Leslie on Sept. 24, 1999; he survives. She had worked at OReilly Auto Parts for several years, and had also worked as a waitress. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Lewis, on Sept. 27, 2007; and one brother, Steven Lewis, in infancy. Survivors include her children, Jennifer Neff, Richmond, and Rachael Hayson; her mother, Nina Lewis, Richmond; two brothers, Michael Lewis and Donald Lewis, both of Richmond; a step-son, Kevin Leslie, Richmond; and three grandsons. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Excelsior Springs. She worked as a sales clerk for Wal-Mart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estell Miller; and one son, John Miller. Maxine V. Mickey Miller, 98, Sabetha, Kan., died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. Ms. Miller was born Sept. 5, 1909, in Sparks, Kan., the daughter of D.G. and Zera Hayes Miller. She taught for two years in Seneca, Kan., then moved to Kansas City, Kan., where she taught elementary school for 35 years before she retired in 1969. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Erle Kent and Mary Ellen Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Lee Perkins, Smithville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews, including Dan Perkins, Kearney, Mo. Henrietta Bessie Newton, 82, Rayville, Mo., died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Lawson Manor in Lawson, Mo. Mrs. Newton was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bessie Brown Norris. She was married to Harold Leslie Newton, who preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2000. She worked for Whitaker Cable for several years as an assembler. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin Arthur Robinson; a granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Robinson; one sister, Betty Bennett; and two brothers, Alvin Norris and Junior Norris. Donnie Nolker
Martin Donald Donnie Nolker, 81, Rayville, Mo., died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at his home. Mr. Nolker was born July 7, 1926, in Ray County, the son of Gus and Mae (Daniels) Nolker. He farmed and raised cattle for most of his life. He had also built homes and worked in construction and at one time had worked for MFA. He was a member of Old Union Christian Union Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Nolker and John Nolker. Survivors include four daughters, Marjorie Baker and Winnie Briant, both of Lawson, and Nancy Gamel and Marta Sizemore, both of Festus; two sisters, Bonnie Cates, Vibbard, and Nora Hutcheson, Rayville; two brothers, Frank Nolker, Pittsburg, Mo., and Gene Nolker, Vibbard; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. John I. Parsons
John Irvin Parsons, 80, Mosby, Mo., died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Excelsior Springs Care Center and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Parsons was born Aug. 15, 1927, in Cassville, the son of Henry and Lillian Bryant Parsons. He was married to Iona Mae Powell on Feb. 29, 1949; she preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1975. Mr. Parsons was employed for 24 years at Rival Manufacturing. He worked for the City of Mosby in the water department before he retired in 1990. He was a lifelong resident of the Mosby area. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mitchell Parsons and Bob Parsons; and two sisters, Helen Lockamy and Dorothy Hodges. Survivors include his son, John Garrett Parsons, Excelsior Springs; his daughter, Jandi Gayle Parsons, Excelsior Springs; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Sutton, Mosby, and Virginia Due, Excelsior Springs. Opal Pence
Opal Seull Pence, 93, formerly of Kearney, Mo., died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Clinton Care and Rehab Center in Plattsburg, Mo. Ms. Pence was born Nov. 12, 1914, in Clay County, the daughter of Arch and Ruby Eberts Seull. She and her husband, LeRoy, spent their life together as farmers. Her husband preceded her in death in 1979, and in 1984 she left the farm and moved to St. Joseph, where she lived for 19 years before moving to the Clinton Care and Rehab Center in Plattsburg in 2004. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Willard Pence, Smithville; a sister-in-law, Kate Pence, Kearney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, at Fry-Bross and Spidle Chapel in Kearney; burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Dorothy L. Pollick, 77, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Ms. Pollick was born Nov. 10, 1930, the daughter of John and Edna Rusher. She lived in Raytown, Mo., for 52 years. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She was employed by Boatmens Bank in Raytown for more than 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Homer C. Pollick. Survivors include five children, Clarie L. Davis, Mokane, Mo., Peggy S. Ireland, Kansas City, Donna M. Morrison, Kearney, Michael A. Pollick, Harrisonville, and Kathy L. Norman David Rimmer, 61, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at his home. Mr. Rimmer was born June 27, 1946, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Melvin and Helen Bollinger Rimmer. He was married to Dorothy Elaine Bush. He had been employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include two sons, David Alan Rimmer, Richmond, and John Oliver Rimmer, Kearney; his mother, Helen Valentine Rimmer, Gladstone; one brother, Howard Rimmer, Gladstone; and a sister, Sheryl Davis, Gladstone. Helen V. Rimmer
Helen Valentine Rimmer, 96, Gladstone, Mo. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.) died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Riverside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Riverside, Mo. Mrs. Rimmer was born Feb. 14, 1912, on a farm three miles from Elkhorn, the daughter of Frank F. and Lorraine G. (Craven) Bollinger. She was married to Melvin Eugene on April 17, 1944; he preceded her in death on April 4, 1976. She worked for the Lane Sewing Factory in Excelsior Springs for several years, and later for the Nellie Don factory in North Kansas City. For more than 40 years she had been a resident of Excelsior Springs. In earlier years she attended Rock Falls Baptist Church, and later was a member of Flack Memorial Christian Union Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Norman David Rimmer, on March 2, 2008; and one brother, Arthur Bollinger. Survivors include a son, Howard Rimmer, Gladstone; a daughter, Sheryl Davis, Gladstone; two brothers, Floyd Bollinger, Phoenix, Ariz., and Franklin Bollinger Jr., Gladstone; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, with the Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Larry Mitchell Russell, 53, Orrick, Mo., died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Russell was born Sept. 7, 1954, in Willits, Calif., the son of Neman Elmo and Mickey Ruth (Porter) Russell. He was married to Barbara Kay Thompson on Aug. 30, 1986; she survives. For 21 years he worked for Smurfit Stone Containers/Altivity in North Kansas City. He later worked at Cardinal Health in Kansas City since September 2007. He was of the Christian Faith. He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Ruth Hupp; and his grandparents. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Dylan Mitchell Russell, of the home; his mother, Mickey Russell, Clarksville, Ark.; and two sisters, Kimberly Needham, Pacola, Okla., and Roberta Shoemaker, Excelsior Springs. Kendra Sue (Browning) Savicz, 63, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at her home. Ms. Savicz was born Feb. 23, 1945, the daughter of Alvin Kenneth and Charlotte Faye (Jones) Browning. She had been a sales representative for Sherwin-Williams in Kansas City. Survivors include a son, Robert Scott Browning, Independence; and a daughter, Beth Ann Donaldson, Excelsior Springs. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the First Assembly of God Church in Excelsior Springs, with Pastor Larry Block officiating. Anna Marie (Ann) Costigan Schneider, 75, Rayville, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, in Spring Hill, Kan. Ann was born November 16, 1932, the second of five children of Teresa and John Costigan of Ottawa, Kan. Ann was an animal lover her whole life, from bunny rabbits to cats, dogs and horses. Ann grew up in Kansas City, Kan., graduating from St. Rose of Lima Grade School and Bishop Ward High School. Ann was a talented artist and had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang in church choirs her whole life, soloing at many weddings. She was married to Joseph Donald Schneider in 1966. They were married for 37 years, until Dons death in 2003. Ann and Don bought their dream house in the country, in Rayville, Mo., naming it the Double Bar S Ranch. Ann immediately bought her first horse. After attaining eighth in seniority worldwide at TWA, Ann decided to retire after 48 years of faithful service as an executive secretary. Ann then decided to raise Maltese dogs, being that the Double Bar S Ranch was already a haven for homeless cats and dogs. Ann will be dearly missed by her friends and relatives. She is survived by her brothers, Richard Costigan, S.J., of Loyola University, Chicago, Ill., and Joseph Costigan, Spring Hill, Kan.; sisters, Dorothy Mulik, Neosho, Mo., and Pat Komer, Spring Hill, Kan.; nine nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and -nephews; and her beloved dogs, Jill, Adam and Dandy. Ann had a religious view of life, and this was shown in one of her favorite sayings, If God brings you to it, God will bring you through it. A funeral mass for Ann is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1503 Tracy, Excelsior Springs. A visitation and wake will be held Friday evening between 5 and 6:30 p.m., also at the church. Burial will take place at Resurrection North Cemetery. Audrey Jean (May) Sells, 80, Missouri City, Mo., died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Ashton Court in Liberty. Ms. Sells was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Missouri City, the daughter of Robert H. and Alice F. (Pulse) May. She was a member of Missouri City Christian Church. She served for several years on the Missouri City School Board and the Election Board. Dale Dean Snow, 61, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Snow was born Aug. 16, 1946, in Crawford County, Kan., the son of Merle and Ruth (Long) Snow. He was a funeral director and embalmer. He purchased Gowing-Snow Funeral Home in Richmond in 1987, and then operated Snow Funeral Home in Richmond for more than 20 years. He also had Snow Funeral Home in Wellington for several years. He served as Ray County Coroner for 24 years. He was also was a founder, former president, and served on the board of Ideal Industries, Richmond, Mo. He served in a number of other civic positions as well. Survivors include his mother, Ruth Snow, Clinton, Mo.; the love of his life, Robin Outersky and her daughter, Marcie, of the home; one daughter, Dawn Schumacher, Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Charles E. Gene Snow, Columbia; two sisters, JoAnne Steimer, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joyce Cunningham, Pittsburg, Kan.; and one grandson. He is also survived by three stepsons, Chris, Andy and Scott Holm; and four stepgrandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Vera was born on Sept. 21, 1915, in Ray County, Mo., the daughter of Roscoe and Edith (Teegarden) Harris. She was married to Ernest Frank Stein on June 27, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo. She taught school at the Scott School in Ray County, Mo. during World War II. She had also worked for Montgomery Ward, and was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Vera was a faithful member of the Vibbard Christian Union Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Frank Stein, of the home; one son, Gary Stein and his wife, Melody, of Rayville, Mo.; one granddaughter, Misty Stein, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and one grandson, Benjamin Stein, of Rayville, Mo. Steven M. Stubbs, 30, Holt, Mo., died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Liberty Hospital following an automobile accident. Mr. Stubbs was born Dec. 12, 1977, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Gary and Donetta Brownlee Stubbs. He was reared in Holt and graduated from Kearney High School and from the Excelsior Springs Area Career Center, where he was taught carpentry. He was a self-employed residential home builder. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Nora Brownlee; and his paternal grandfather, Bill Stubbs. Donna Toler
Donna Kay Toler, 45, Kansas City, Mo., died Friday, March 21, 2008, at KU Medical Center. Mrs. Toler was born July 13, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Columbus and Claudine (Sands) Wood. She was a lifelong Kansas City area resident. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Ron Toler, of the home; four sons, Michael Wood, Brandon Wood, Justin Wood, and Kristopher Toler, all of Kansas City; one daughter, Ronni Wood, Liberty; and two granddaughters. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kan.; burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Helen Walker
Helen T. (Schmidt) Walker, 97, Kearney, Mo., died Saturday, March 15, 2008. Ms. Walker was born Jan. 29, 1911, the daughter of Roger and Nora McMahan Brenneman. She was married to Arthur Schmidt on Feb. 13, 1937, and together they made their home on farms in Claycomo and Lathrop until his death on Nov. 16, 1952 She continued to operate the family farm until her children graduated from high school, and then she became a licensed practical nurse. She lived for a short time in Muskogee, Okla., where she owned and operated a nursing home. She was married to Lincoln Walker on April 16, 1964, and they returned to the farm in Lathrop. He died June 8, 1983, and Ms. Walker spent her later years living in Liberty, Holt and Kearney. She was a member of Holt Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Joseph "Bud" Brenneman and Josephine Lampkin. Survivors include one daughter, Maggie Anderson, Kearney; one son, John Schmidt, Kearney; a sister, Dorothy Thompson, Baton Rouge, La.; one grandson; one great-grandson; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Holt Methodist Church; burial in Lathrop Cemetery in Lathrop. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Bertie Faye Walters, age 95, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Born June 21, 1912, in Ray County, Mo., she was the daughter of Bovard and Bessie Ann (McCoy) Arnold. On May 20, 1929 in Olathe, Kan., she was united in marriage to John William Walters, who preceded her in death in 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Walters, Jr.; a grandson, Donald Walters; a great-grandson, John Paul Walters; two sisters; and one brother. Faye is survived by two granddaughters, Connie Fluesmeier of Excelsior Springs and Debra Powers of Louisburg, Kan.; nine great-grandchildren, John, Amy, Jami, Cassie, Nancy, Ryan, Chris, Chad and Shane; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. For 30 years, Mrs. Walters owned and operated the Faye Walters Dress Shop in Excelsior Springs before retiring in 1975. Faye was well-known for her oil paintings and she also enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, at the Pisgah Baptist Church on Highway 10 east of Excelsior Springs. Visitation was held after noon Sunday, March 16, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
Ralph Walters
Ralph Neal Walters, 78, Kearney, Mo., died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at his home. Mr. Walters was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Lathrop, the son of Joseph and Pearl Neal Walters. He was married to Lois Feigly on April 17, 1976. He was a former alderman for the city of Kearney and, upon the death of Mayor Toliver Cave, served as president of that board from June 1964 to April 1965. He was a commercial contractor and owned and operated the Phillips Construction Company from 1971 to 1994. He retired in 1995 after more than 40 years in construction. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kearney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lola Gabbert. Survivors include his wife, Lois, of the home; three sons, Dale Walters, Chandler, Ariz., Joe Walters, Kansas City, and Darin Walters, Turney; two daughters, Marsha Anderson, Kansas City, and Phyllis Strobel, Kearney; one stepson, Allen Milligan, Overland Park, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Tammy Kinney, Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Sara Jo Faulkner, Clinton; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at First Baptist Church in Kearney; burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Lavona E. Wartenbee
Lavona E. Wartenbee, 99, Kansas City, Mo. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.), passed Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Lavona E. Wartenbee was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Brashear, Mo., to Archer Harlan and Minnie Bell (Stonecypher) Martin. She resided in Excelsior Springs for 85 years. She was united in holy wedlock to Mr. Jesse Wartenbee Jan. 26, 1925. To this union were born three children, Ernest J. Wartenbee, Donald J. Wartenbee and Nancy L. Wartenbee. Lavona retired from Mosby Lumber Company in 1970. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Mosby Spinning Wheel Club. Lavona also was a faithful member of Mosby Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, played the organ each Sunday and participated in a host of other activities within the church. Mrs. Wartenbee was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Wartenbee; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Carol Wartenbee; grandson, Jimmy Wartenbee; and grandson, Brian Wartenbee. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Pat Wartenbee of Excelsior Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Wartenbee and Buster Coppage of Kansas City; grandchildren, Cindy Montgomery of Pearland, Texas, Les Wartenbee of Excelsior Springs, Rene Battagler of Excelsior Springs, Carol Lee Templeton of Excelsior Springs, Julie Cazzell of Mosby, Robin Curry of Excelsior Springs, Beth Gatlin of College Station, Texas, Anthony Crockett of Kansas City, Sammy Don Wartenbee of Excelsior Springs, and Candace Crowley of Kansas City; 11 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends. Dennis Watson
Dennis Dee Watson, 68, Kearney, Mo., died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Watson was born April 2, 1939, in Independence, the son of Clell and Laverna Griswold Watson. The family moved to Kearney when he was 11, and he became a member of Kearney First Baptist Church. He was married to Anajane Miller on July 19, 1959. He owned and operated Watson Construction Company for 40 years before he retired in 1998. For 20 years, from 1969 to 1989, he served as mayor of Kearney, and was also involved in numerous civic organizations and other causes. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jane Watson; two daughters, DeeAnne Bogar and Terri Godsey, both of Excelsior Springs; two sisters, Diana Brinegar and Donna Harris, both of Excelsior Springs; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at First Christian Church in Kearney; burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Danny R. Williams, 57, Lawson, Mo., died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Williams was born July 1, 1950, in Wyandotte County, Kan., the son of Guss and Mary (Morgan) Williams. He was married to Leanna (Lotz) Williams on Dec. 24, 1976. He worked as maintenance supervisor for Gilmour in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Leanna, of the home; two daughters, Tara Williams, Liberty, and Karie Williams, Lawson; one son, David Williams, Gulfport, Miss.; his twin sister, Donna Jelinek, Lathrop, and another sister, Joan House, Cameron, Mo.; two brothers, Randy Williams, Wiota, Iowa, and Gary Williams, Atlantic, Iowa, and one grandson on the way, Marquis Dalexzander Maple. Beryl Windsor, 95, formerly of Ray County, Mo., died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Camel Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Independence, Mo. Mrs. Windsor was born Aug. 4, 1912, in Ray County, the daughter of Smith and Myrtle (Smithey) Mullin. She was married to W. Roland Windsor on April 11, 1936; he preceded her in death on July 11, 1975. She was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs, Mo. She lived in Ray County most of her life. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Chaney. Survivors include several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Norman A. Woodward, 67, Helena, Mo. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Baltimore, Md.), died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at a St. Joseph area heath care center. Mr. Woodward was born June 11, 1940, in New Sharon, Iowa. He married Bernice Bastian on Sept. 6, 1964; she survives of the home. He attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he received his bachelors degree in Business. He retired from the Social Security Administration and in retirement was a tax preparer for 18 years. Mr. Woodward was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Boyd and Ruth Marie (Bartel) Woodward; and his stepmother, Frances Woodward. In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Robert Woodward and his wife, Carol, Pleasanton, Calif.; daughter, Diane Peach and her husband, Bill, Story City, Iowa; three granddaughters, Anna Peach, Kate Peach and Noelle Woodward; brother, Duane Woodward and his wife, Becky, Hull, Iowa; two sisters, Virginia Smith, Des Moines, Iowa, and Patricia Kehrberg and her husband, Ron, Clinton, Iowa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory in St. Joseph. Interment will be in the Helena, Mo., Cemetery.
