*Ervin W. Bahlmann
Ervin W. Bahlmann, 80, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Ervin was born May 22, 1929, in Frederika, Iowa, the son of Clarence Bahlmann and Paula Struck Bahlmann. Ervin is survived by his son, David and wife Elly, West Salem, Wisc., and son Steven and wife Margaret, Hilton Head Island, S.C.; daughter, Paula Thompson and husband, Ronald, Excelsior Springs; son, Ervin Bahlmann and wife Celeste, Olathe, Ks.; son, Arnim Bahlmann, Liberty; son, Aaron , Clark, Mo., daughter Ellen Timm and husband Daniel, Utica, Minn.; Brother Duane and wife Ann, Waverly, Ia., grandchildren, Kenney and Heidi, Mike and Beverly, Shelly and Daniel, Chlsey, Whitney, Victoria and Matthew, Jason and Mary, Tabitha, Maxwell, Katrina, Jeni and Jason, Shane and Julie, Zerlinda, Heather and Manuel, Jerin and Raul, Aaron Jr., Rebecca and Evan; great-grandchildren: Mikaela, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Jayden, Keenan, Mercedes, Jacob, Zachary, Kaylah, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Kameron, Kaiden, Kyle, Kristie, Chelsea, Haley, Hanna, Laci, Caesar, Audrie and Lilli.; and great-great-granddaughter Jayden. Visitation was held Thurs., March 18 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs; services will be held Fri., March 19 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. Ilene Banks
Ilene Barbie Banks, 89, Orrick, Mo., died Monday, March 8, 2010, at the White Ridge Health Care Center in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Mrs. Banks was born June 7, 1920, at Newton, the daughter of William Jennings and Beryl (Barbee) Coffman. She was married to George William Banks Sr. on April 4, 1942; he survives. They lived in Orrick for many years and she was a homemaker, raising her family. She was of the Methodist faith and attended the Baptist Church in Orrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Banks, in 1989; and two brothers, Vaughn Coffman and Dean Coffman. In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, George “Joe” Banks Jr., Jenks, Okla., and Rick Banks, Lee’s Summit; one sister, Billie Jean Kilgore, Mosby; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At the family’s request, the burial is private and will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Michelle Banning-Caton
Michelle Nicole Banning-Caton, 21, Fort Bragg, N.C. (formerly of Lawson, Mo.) died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, in Lawson, Mo. Michelle was born July 23, 1988, in North Kansas City, the daughter of Dale D. and Tamara Sue (Watts) Banning. She was a 2007 graduate of Lawson High School. She had attended the Lawson Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Orbie Banning; and her grandmother, Paula Sue Watts. Survivors include her son, Maxwell Abrams Caton, of the home; her parents, Dale D. and Tamara Sue Banning, Lawson; one sister, Melissa Banning, Kansas City; paternal grandmother, Mary (Banning) Melton, and stepgrandfather, Jr. Melton, Lawson; maternal grandfather, Gordon Watts, Lawson; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at the Lawson Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in the Lawson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maxwell Caton Memorial Fund, in care of Lawson Bank.
“Vic” Barra
Victory “Vic” Barra, 73, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorial services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Church of the Annunciation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kearney High School Chamber Choir.
Howard Carder
Howard C. Carder, 89, Warrensburg, Mo. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.), died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Mo.
Mr. Carder was born Oct. 12, 1920, in Ray County, the son of Gilbert Francis and Arah Elsie (Creason) Carder. He was married to Alice Alberta Sloan on Nov. 4, 1946; she preceded him in death on July 30, 2006. For several years he owned and operated a service station at Rayville and worked at various jobs including for the city of Excelsior Springs delivering Pepsi-Cola. Later he worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Claycomo plant, where he retired in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herbert, Royce and Donald Carder; and one sister, Lois Carder. Survivors include two sons, Dan Carder, Excelsior Springs, and Dale Carder, Warrensburg; one daughter, Deane Schirmer, Raymore; one brother, Wayne Carder, Rayville; two sisters, Marjorie Flannery, Richmond, and Anita Showalter, Idaho; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Sanderson Cemetery near Rayville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans’ Assistance League of Warrensburg.

Pamela D. Cardin, 49, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, March 1, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6; burial in Bethel Campground Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty.
Reba Clevenger
Reba Mae Clevenger, 84, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, March 6. 2010, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. Clevenger was born May 8, 1925, in Ray County, the daughter of Daniel and Fleeta (Mills) Sharp. She was married to Charles Clevenger on Aug. 23, 1943; he died in May 1998. She was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Clevenger; one sister, Opal Blyth; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Koren Reed. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Brock, Excelsior Springs, Betty Hill, South Carolina, and Donna Rusk, Excelsior Springs; four sisters, Ruby Broadhurst, Excelsior Springs, Frieda Skinner, Lawson, Martha Jenkins, Richmond, and Margaret Warner, Excelsior Springs; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. James Coles, 71, Lawson, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010. James is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Sue Coles, of the home; three daughters, Leanne Galloway and Donald Lewis, Richmond, Cynthia Adams, Excelsior Springs, and Jamie Hammett and David Pike, Excelsior Springs; mother, Ina B. McQuinn; two brothers, Troyce Coles and Gerald “Chubby” Coles; one sister, Benda F. Dupree; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Glenda S. Dickey. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Church of the Nazarene Canaan Hill in Lawson. *“T.J.” Craft
Tony " T.J." Craft, 56, Richmond, Mo., died Monday, March 29, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Craft was born Dec. 2, 1953, in American Falls, Idaho, the son of Juril and Gladys (Wright) Craft. He was married to Jo Lynn "Jodi" (Kienitz) Craft on Aug. 7, 1970. He worked as a Hydraulics Mechanic for Weise, a division of Caterpillar. He was owner and operator of Badlands Racing and was a demolition derby driver for more than 35 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Dean Craft. Survivors include his wife, Jodi, of the home; three daughters, Dawnie Haynes and husband, Jason, Richmond, Piper Cole and significant other, Russell Meador, Odessa, and Lacey Houser and husband, Justin, Fort Campbell, Ky.; a brother, Steve Craft, Springfield; and eight grandchildren, Colton, Allison, Brandon, Ethan, Andrew, Race, "Lil" T.J. and Felicity. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Dockery Baptist Church Cemetery in Dockery. *Nancy Crowe
Nancy Ruth Crowe, 68, died Jan. 31, 2010, at Garden Valley Nursing Home in Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Crowe was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Harry Robert and Oda Ruth Cox Crowe. She attended school in Excelsior Springs and graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1959. Nancy attended William Jewell College and graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a degree in mathematics. She worked for various insurance companies in the actuarial field, including BMA in Kansas City. She retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City. She also served as the business manager of the Strand Street Theater in Galveston, Texas, from 1978 to 1982. She was an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Survivors include her sister, Barbara Buehrer, Kansas City; two nieces, Katrina Bellem and husband, Todd, Priaire Village, Kan., and Denise Buehrer, St. Louis; her nephew, Robert Crowe, Kansas City; and two grandnieces, Savannah Bellem, Prairie Village, Kan., and Lexi Bellem, Kansas City. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Masonic Cemetery. Cremation was handled by the Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri.
Anna Dawson
Anna Elizabeth Dawson, 91, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the North Kansas City Hospital. Mrs. Dawson was born on April 30, 1918 in Richmond, Mo. the daughter of Pearl L. and Ora Lee (Lyles) Martin. She worked as a sales clerk for Flander’s Department Store in Excelsior Springs, Mo. for several years. She was married to William Dawson in 1987. He preceded her in death in 2005. Mrs. Dawson was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Melinda Williams and Laudean Jackson. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, at the Second Baptist Church in Richmond. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am. on Saturday, March 20, prior to services. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Arrangements through Polly Funeral Home in Richmond.

Theresa Lee Einerson, 54, Gladstone, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Theresa is preceded in death by her parents, Francis Zelinski and Jo Anne Hamner-Holm; and her grandparents, Helen Duncan and Bill Hamner. Survivors include her husband, Donn Einerson; daughters, Hannah (Billy Weiland) Einerson, Rachel (Elisha) Bears and Amber Einerson; grandsons, Tre and Aiden Porter; granddaughter, Alexis Einerson; brother, Robert (Alice) Zelinski; sisters, Tammy (Carl) Estep and Misty Forrester; and many nieces and nephews. Bobby Elam Jr.
Robert Wayne “Bobby” Elam Jr., 47, Riverside, Mo., died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at his home. Mr. Elam was born July 3, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan. He worked in the construction field. He was also a Kansas City Golden Gloves champion. He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Elam. Survivors include his father, Robert Wayne Elam Sr., Springfield; Cheryl Elam, Excelsior Springs; three brothers, Richard Elam, Sedalia, Donald Elam, Fontana, and Wesley Elam, Texas; and other relatives. Memorial services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Elmira Baptist Church in Elmira; graveside services were to follow the memorial at Elmira Cemetery.
Roger Elder
Roger Elder, 75, Odessa, Mo. (formerly of Camdenton, Mo., Clinton, Mo., and Excelsior Springs, Mo.), died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in Odessa. Mr. Elder was born March 27, 1934, in York, Neb., the son of Donald Franklin and Maxine Elizabeth Rogers Elder. He was married to Kathy Elaine Irons on Oct. 13, 1975; she survives of the home. In 1996, he moved to Odessa to become the city’s public works superintendent. From 1984 to 1989, he was the city administrator for Camdenton, and he was also public works superintendent in Clinton. While in Excelsior Springs, he was director of maintenance and transportation for the Job Corps. He also worked for a radio station in York, Neb. In addition to his wife, survivors include five daughters, Leigh Ann Blevins, Janice Frost and Donna Manley, all of Excelsior Springs, Terri Uptegrove, Kansas City, and Julie Norris, Columbus, Ind.; one son, Jeff Hill, Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Pat Jackson, Conway, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel in Odessa; burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a hospice of the donor’s choice.
Lucille Endsley
Enna "Lucille" (Woods) Endsley, 93, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, March 1, 2010, at The Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Endsley was born June 8, 1916, in Ray County, the daughter of Cornelius "Neeley" and Nora (Summers) Woods. She was married to Vernon I. Endsley on Aug. 12, 1937; he preceded her in death on March 29, 1989. She was a member of the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister in 1911. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, Excelsior Springs; a son, David E. Endsley, Cassville; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, northeast of Richmond. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the funeral home. Dora Frye
Dora Joann Frye, 75, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, March 5, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Frye was born June 15, 1934, to Lester Carl and Madeline (Crowley) Todd. She was married to Richard L. Frye on Oct. 22, 1950. She had been a custodian at Lewis Middle School in Excelsior Springs before she retired in 1999. She attended Flack Memorial Christian Union Church in Excelsior Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Richard L. Frye, of the home; her children, Gary Frye, Augusta, Kan., Karen Etheridge, Patty Easley, Mark Frye, Lee Ann Eldredge and Cheryle Workman, all of Excelsior Springs; brothers, Bob Todd, Johnny Todd and Carl Todd; sisters, Frances Clancy and Sue Walsh; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, with funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Burial in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
“Cecil” Garrett
Calvin Cecil Garrett, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Ennis Regional Medical Center in Ennis, Texas. Mr. Garrett was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Branch, Ark., the son of Charles Dennis and Ollie Mae (Berry) Garrett. He grew up in Arkansas and moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1936. He was married to Florene Smith on June 18, 1949, and they made their home in Dallas. During the time they have been married they have lived in Dallas, Waxahachie, Cedar Creek Lake and Ennis, all in Texas, and in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He was employed by Ford Motor Company as a millwright for more than 31 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kemp, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Florene S. Garrett, Ennis, Texas; two sons: Mike Garrett, Palmer, Texas, and Lee David Garrett, Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Carol Calvert, Waxahachie, Texas; one sister, Gladys Cole, Fayetteville, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 2, at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis, Texas. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Russell Bryan officiating. Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
Richard Hamilton
Richard L. Hamilton, 57, Gladstone, Mo., died Monday, March 8, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Hamilton was born Jan. 29, 1953, in Sacramento, Calif., the son of Thomas and Patricia A. (Fisher) Hamilton. He spent the majority of his working years as a carpenter, specializing in custom home building and commercial construction. Survivors include his mother, Patricia, Kansas City; his father, Thomas and wife, Joyce, Denison, Texas; sister, Sherri Evola, Kansas City; and three brothers, Harold Hamilton, Grand Junction, Colo., Michael Hamilton, Excelsior Springs, and Arthur Bud Erickson, Kansas City, Kan. Services were set for 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, with visitation with the family beginning at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Molia Shrine, 701 Noyes, St. Joseph, MO 64506.
“Marge” Hawkins
B. Margaurite “Marge” Hawkins, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at her home. Ms. Hawkins was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Kansas City, the daughter of William Price and Edna Rebecca (Fenner) Garrett. She spent her childhood with her grandparents, Ervin and Mary Fenner, then spent her teenage years with her mother, stepfather, John L. Turner, and brother, Lewis E. Turner. At the age of 18, she was married to Joseph C. Macaluso, then she was married to Keith E. Russell in 1970; he died in 1978. She was married to Norman C. Hawkins in January 1984; he died in 1999. She moved back to Excelsior Springs on Nov. 11, 2001, after 27 years in Arizona. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one of Mr. Hawkins’ children, Dale Hawkins; and three grandchildren. Survivors include four children, Frankie Lee Macaluso, Kearney, Catherine E. Rone, Excelsior Springs, Jo Anna Cherrito, Gladstone, and Rose Mary Williams, Excelsior Springs; her brother, Lewis Turner, Argyle, Texas; Mr. Russell’s children, Judith Gayle White, Excelsior Springs, and Gary K. Russell, Kansas City; Mr. Hawkins’ children, Janet Rosencruntz and Martha Hamilton, both of Michigan; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the chapel; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Flack Memorial Church in Excelsior Springs.
Ruth Haynes
Ruth Marie Haynes, 85, Richmond, Mo. (formerly of Lawson, Mo.), died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond. Ms. Haynes was born July 29, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Catherine Elizabeth (Barker) McDonald. For several years she was a bookkeeper at Kansas City White Goods and later worked for Bob’s IGA in Gladstone. She was preceded in death by her parents.Survivors include her dear friends, Norma Wright and Laura and Robert Hatcher, all of Richmond; and other friends and neighbors. A graveside committal service were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, at the Lawson Cemetery in Lawson. Cremation. There is no public visitation scheduled. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.
Karen Jackson
Karen Marie Jackson, 66, Lawson, Mo., died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Jackson was born March 12, 1943, in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of Theodore James and Bessie Marie (Lathwell) Speigle. She was married to Richard Allen Jackson on Dec. 16, 1977; he survives. She was a business owner, English teacher, secretary, administrative assistant and customer service manager for various employments throughout her life. She was a member of the Washington Street Restoration Branch Church of Excelsior Springs. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Theodore Speigle, Jr. and Richard Speigle. In addition to her husband, survivors include her mother, Bessie Speigle, Independence; five children, Dawn Jones, Windsor, Dean Stupp, Liberty, Kathy Ford, Independence, Matt Jackson, Rayville, and Laura Romazon, Lawson; one sister, Jeannine Wright, Independence; and eight grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Washington Street Restoration Branch Church, 15528 Washington School Rd., Excelsior Springs. Johanna “Joan” Elizabeth Kern
Johanna “Joan” Elizabeth Kern, 88, of Kearney, Mo., died on March 16, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Kern was born September 5, 1921 in Kansas City, Mo. to Eva and Jacob Samborski. She had four brothers and sisters. She married Joseph Michael Kern, Sr. on August 8, 1942 in North Kansas City, Mo. She is survived by one brother, John Samborski of Wheatland, Mo and one sister, Anna Jones, of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Also eight children: Joseph Michael (Mary Neil) Kern, Jr., Theresa Stalone, Janice Kern, Linda (Lonnie) Collins, Jim (Denise) Kern, John (Patricia) Kern, Diana (Lloyd) Peirce, Mary (Larry) Dickerson; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was Thursday, March 18 at the Church of the Annunciation in Kearney. Funeral services celebrating Joan’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Church of the Annunciation in Kearney with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Kearney. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Church of the Annunciation.
*Harold Kohler
Harold J. Kohler, 87, Lawson, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Hal was born in Allentown, Pa., on Nov. 3, 1922. He was a truck driver, retiring from ABF. Hal served in the Army during World War II. He stood up for what he thought was right. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and daughter, Panthiea Gaye Phillips. Roy Eugene Long age 32 passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010. His funeral will be held at Community Heights Alliance Church, 1000 E. 12th St. South, Newton, Iowa on Saturday, March 20. He was born Jan. 10th 1978 in Louisianna. He was raised in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He is survived by his wife Dezera Long, two sons Laykton and Drake and one daughter Issabella. His mother Beatrice O’dell and Arden Johnson of KCMO. His Father Roy Long of Richmond, MO. Two brothers Christopher and Billie Kirkland and a sister Kayla Lane, three nephews, Christopher, Cameron and Jacob, and one neice Evana. Geno was a loving father, husband and friend to all that knew him. He will be missed dearly.
Jacob Mauer
Jacob Herbert Mauer, 78, Liberty, Mo., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Mauer was born July 21, 1931, in Topeka, Kan. For more than 34 years, he taught Latin, first at Bishop Miege High School, then at Bishop Ward High School and then for 27 years at Liberty High School. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Liberty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Terry Mauer, of the home; son, Michael Mauer, Inidiana; daughter, Anne-Marie Luna, Westwood, Kan.; three brothers; six sisters; and three grandchildren. Gary Dee McKown, 61, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Gary was born on Sept. 28, 1948, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the son of Junior David and Lucille (Sloan) McKown. He attended Missouri Western College and received his master’s degree. His professional experience was in the education field, working in public schools in Mountain Home, Ark., Bartlesville, Okla., Tulsa, Okla., and most recently as principal of Ellis Elementary in Plattsburg, Mo. He had also worked as career counselor/student government advisor for the Excelsior Springs Job Corps. Gary enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors include One daughter Megan McKown Miller and husband, Vince, of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, Matthew Garrett McKown of Bartlesville, Okla., and Kirby Woolston of Topeka, Kan.; three brothers, his twin brother Terry Lee McKown and wife, Joyce, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Bill McKown of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Jim McKown of Liberty, Mo.; three sisters, Caroline McGonigle of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Mary McKown of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Shirley Davis and husband, Richard, of Gladstone, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Malia and Josie Miller and Stevie and Dillon Woolston. Deanna LaRue Moyer, 37, Richmond, Mo., died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Moyer was born July 1, 1972, in Lexington, the daughter of William E. and Joan (Sturgeon) Francis. She was married to Mark Allen Moyer on Oct. 31, 1998; he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Richmond. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas Sturgeon and Gene and Pauline Rippy. In addition to her husband, survivors include her parents, Bill and Joan Francis, Richmond; three children, Alexandra Francis and Christopher Francis, both of Richmond, and Dereck Moyer, of the home; two sisters, Dawn Houston, Richmond, and Denise Francis, Bolivar; and grandmother, Peggy Sturgeon, Richmond. Margaret Noel Murdock, 59, Richmond, Mo., passed away Monday, March 15, 2010, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Mo. Margaret was born on Oct. 27, 1950, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of David and Joan McDonald. On Oct. 20, 1982, she married Fred Murdock, who survives of the home. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Fred, of the home; two daughters, Kelly Elaine Phillips and husband, Charley, of Williamson, Iowa, and Sarah Amanda Teegarden and husband, Jonathan, of Richmond, Mo.; one son, Jesse Clarence Murdock and wife, Mindy, of Richmond, Mo.; one sister, Sandra Elaine Peterie and husband, Gary, of Lawrence, Kan.; her mother, Joan Elaine McDonald, Gladstone, Mo.; grandchildren, Mary Margaret Vaughn, Benjamin Jacob Alfred, Amelia Marie Phillips, Payton Lee Teegarden, and Talyn Noel Teegarden; and nephews, David Jason Peterie and Daniel Nelson Peterie. Leo Louis Myers, 88, Overland Park, Kan. (formerly of Chillicothe, Mo.), died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Greenwood Terrace in Lenexa, Kan. Mr. Myers was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Portageville, Mo., the son of Hal and Eleanor E. (Knueven) Myers. He was married to Rosemary Catherine Englert on May 16, 1945; she died Aug. 13, 1995. He was employed as a mail carrier by the United States Postal Service and worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation, and also farmed. He was a member of St. Columban Catholic Church in Chillicothe. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Myers; and a grandson, Clayton John Myers. Survivors include three sons, Jody Myers, Leawood, Kan., H. Phillip Myers, The Villages, Fla., and John Myers, Orrick, Mo.; one daughter, Rose Ann Potter; two sisters, Mary Ellen Byrd, Punta Gorda, Fla., and Stella Hickerson, West Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at St. Columban Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Rose Lee Patchen, 77, Chillicothe, Mo., passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, in her home with her family at her side. She was born on Sept. 3, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of William and Helen L. (McCoy) Hamner. She was a 1950 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School in Excelsior Springs, Mo. She graduation from Aladdin Beauty School in Kansas City, Mo. On Aug. 5, 1950, she married Bennie Franklin Patchen Jr. at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Platte City, Mo.; he survives of the home. She moved to Chillicothe from Excelsior Springs in 1958. She was the owner of and a cosmetologist at Rose Lee’s Beauty Shop in Chillicothe from 1960 until 1980. She then became a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe and the Chillicothe Campers Association. In Excelsior Springs, Rose Lee was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and a former member of Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the Shuffleboard Team for Paradise Park in Pharr, Texas, as well as a member of two Red Hatters clubs in Pharr, Texas. She loved traveling, camping, fishing, gardening and watching birds. She was a true outdoor enthusiast. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Charley; one daughter, Helen Margaret Patchen; and one sister, JoAnn Holm. In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Ben Patchen, Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Virginia “Jenny” Jo Churchill and husband, David, Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Neelie Churchill, Donny Churchill and Duke Churchill, all of Chillicothe; and one great-grandchild, Margaret Jane Ann Churchill, Chillicothe. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. Jack Lee Petree, 66, of Kansas City, Mo. died Friday, March 12, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Petree was born July 26, 1943 in Polo, Mo. the son of Ora Lee and Beulah Mae (Kerns) Petree. He married Helen Theresa DiiBon on June 12, 1976, in Kansas City, Mo. Survivors include wife Helen Diibon, of the home, children Jennifer Sapp and husband Scott of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Angela Petree of Kansas City, Mo., and Jason Petree of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters Jean Thurman of Lawson, Mo. and Sharon Clark of Kearney, Mo.; six grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. Mr. Petree was a 1962 graduate of Lawson High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer during Vietnam. He was employed as an assembler at the General Motors plant in Fairfax until his retirement in 2006. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson, Mo. Mae Imogene Raupp, 81, Kearney, Mo., died Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Golden Living Center. Ms. Raupp was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Madill, Okla., the daughter of Jess Sartin and Nettie Tyner. She worked most of her life as a waitress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip; and two brothers, “Dye” Sartin and “Big” Sartin. Survivors include her children, Helen Mitchell, Holt, Chuck Kirtley, Blue Springs, James Kirtley, Cypress, Texas, and Jerry Kirtley, Butler; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Barry Dean Rice, 69, Lawson, Mo., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at his home. Mr. Rice was born March 27, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Kenneth William and MaryLee Elizabeth (Howe) Rice. He was married to Cecilia Ann Novo-Gradac on June 11, 1960; she preceded him in death on April 6, 1995. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator until he retired in 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three sons, James Rice, Excelsior Springs, John Rice, Lawson, and William Rice, Wood Heights; one daughter, Laura Veverka, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Linda Howard, Liberty; his companion, Patricia Daniels, of the home; and seven grandchildren. Charles Scobee, 80, Lawson, Mo., passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Shirkey’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo. Charles was born on April 9, 1929, in Green Castle, Mo., the son of Carl and Bessie (Smith) Scobee. On Sept. 15, 1951, in Richmond, Mo., he married Lena (Smith) Scobee, who survives of the home. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Railroad Carman. He was a member of the Elmira Baptist Church. Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald “Buster” Scobee, Rosen C. Scobee, Junior Scobee and Jack Scobee; and sister, Emogene Lewis. Steven R. Shelor, 67, of Lawson, Mo. passed away at home on Monday, March 8, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ethel Shelor; his daughter, Cheryl Shelor; two brothers Gene Shelor and Jim Shelor; and two sisters, Corine Hurst and Virginia Lewis. Steven was born December 17, 1942, in Advance, Ark, the youngest of nine children. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, Mo., after 36 years of service. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing for family and friends, working in his garden, tinkering on cars, playing golf, going to the Lake of the Ozarks and his Miller Lite. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Vickie; son Todd Shelor, of Lubbock, Texas; stepsons Vincent Simmers, Lawson, Mo.; Luke Simmers, Kansas City, Mo.; brothers Billy Joe Shelor, Indianapolis, Ind.; Karl Shelor, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Larry Shelor, Kansas City, Mo., and his sister Doris Hurst, Independence, Mo. Donna Sisk, 76, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Donna was born on Oct. 12, 1933, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the daughter of Homer and Pearl (Houston) McDaniel. On Jan. 11, 1953, she married J.C. Sisk, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1999. Right after graduating high school, she went to work for the Marietta Drugstore and worked there for several years. She also had worked as a hostess for the dining room of the Elms Hotel for more than 15 years. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge and Beta Sigma Phi. In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and four brothers. Survivors include four children, Rene Sisk, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Deann Wisecup, Lake Ozark, Mo., Keith Sisk, Odessa, Mo., and Robert Sisk, Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Duncan McDaniel, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Homer Glen McDaniel, of the state of California; two sisters, Dolores Robertson and Betty Napier, both of the state of California; her father-in-law, Ferril Sisk, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Brett Dempsey, Bryan Dempsey, Carmen Duncan, Devin Dusek and Joshua Sisk, all of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Kiesha Sisk, Odessa, Mo., Dustin Wisecup, Lake Ozark, Mo., Jeremy Wisecup, St. Louis, Mo., and Jason Dempsey, Blake Sisk, Lee Sisk, Timothy Sisk and Matthew Sisk, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 10 great-grandchildren. Theodore “Theo” Edward Smith, 78, of Cameron, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Cameron Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. “Theo” was born on Sept. 26, 1931, in Plattsburg, Mo., to Theodore and Anna (Cowden) Smith. He grew up in Plattsburg and later moved to Excelsior Springs, Mo. He spent his last 11 years in Cameron, Mo., where he became a representation of friendship, never meeting a stranger at the CNRC. Theodore was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Timothy T. Smith; maternal grandmother, Laura Allen; aunt and uncle, George and Carrie Seay; and nephew, Raefel May. Survivors include two brothers, Ernest Smith (Virginia), Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Aaron Smith (Lori), St. Joseph, Mo.; three sisters, Gerald Mae Jackson, Cameron, Mo., Loretta Major (Alfred), Des Moines, Iowa, and Patricia “Kathy” Rodriguez (Carlos), Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carl Edward Sullivan, 59, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, March 12, 2010, at his home. Mr. Sullivan was born June 5, 1950, in Morehouse, Mo. the son of William Otis and Rosalee (Catlett) Sullivan. He was married to Debra Gail Norris on Sept. 29, 1974, in Claycomo, Mo. Survivors include wife, Debra Norris; daughter Keri Chailland and husband Jason of Shawnee, Kan.; sons Michael Sullivan of Dallas, Texas, and Wade Sullivan and wife Kristen of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; sister Anita Gillispie, of Lawson, Mo.; brothers Wilford Sullivan and wife Dorris of Kansas City and Travis Sullivan of Excelsior Springs, Mo; three granddaughters, two grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sullivan served as a Military Police Sergeant in the United States Army. He has been employed by Afsco, Pepsi-Cola and Continental Trailways. Edgar Tate, 88, Rayville, Mo., died Monday, March 1, 2010, after a long battle with COPD. Mr. Tate was born December 6, 1921, in Macon, one of 11 children of Daniel and Hester (Vrugen) Tate. He was married to Beulah (Armstrong) Tate on March 8, 1943. He was a carpenter by trade and a mechanic. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Liberty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Beulah (Armstrong) Tate; siblings, Frederick, Robert, Everett, Carrie, Ralph, Frank, Ward, Claude and Wayne; and his stepson, Emmett Tate. Alisha Gay Trammell, 55, Missouri City, Mo., died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. Trammell was born Nov. 21, 1954, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Orland Douglas and Pearl Lou Reed Gentry. She lived in Colorado prior to returning to his area a year ago. Survivors include three children, Stacy Chance, Michelle Hagan and Toni Trammell; her stepmother, Mrs. O.D. Gentry; sisters, Mary Baker and Patricia Brainard; two stepbrothers; one stepsister; and four grandchildren. Edwin Logan Trimble died Thursday, March 11, 2010. Mr. Trimble was born on Jan. 15, 1921 in Liberty, Mo. the son of George Dawson Trimble and Frances (Meservey) Trimble. In 1943, he married Virginia Lee Belsenherz of Lexington, Mo. She preceded him in death in 2007. Mr. Trimble was in the Navy during World War II and spent time in Key West, Fl., Boston, Mass., and Japan. He worked for Union Carbide Corporation and lived in Missouri, Texas, Kansas, Ohio and New York. Survivors include daughter Marcia Trimble of Houston, Texas; son Paul Trimble and wife Pam of Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, at the First Presbyterian Church in Liberty. Internment at the Fairview Cemetery in Liberty will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the First Presbyterian Church or the Union Congregational Church in York Beach, Maine. Jeanene Turner
Nona Jeanene Turner, 54, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at her home. Ms. Turner was born Oct. 13, 1955, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Kendall Calvin and Shirley Mae (Meek) Woods, who survive. For the past 10 years she was employed with Century 21 All Pros in Liberty as a real estate agent. She was a member of Rock Falls Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. In addition to her parents, survivors include a son, Billy Dee Teegarden, Excelsior Springs; two brothers, Kendall D. Woods, Ocala, Fla., and Kyle E. Woods, Lake Alfred, Fla.; and two grandsons, Kaleb M. Rusk and Dalton D. Teegarden. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Rock Falls Baptist Church near Orrick. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to “Meals While You Heal” of Liberty or Excelsior Springs Hospice.

Lewis D. Wallace, 94. Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010. Lewis served during World War II in the Army as a sergeant. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter. Lewis always said: “He would walk a mile for their smile,” referring to the staff at Valley Manor for their exceptional care and personal service that Care Alternatives gave to him in his last hours. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at the State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
Julia White
Julia Augusta White, 93, Hardin, Mo., died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. White was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Case, Mo., the daughter of Fritz and Flora (Buhrmeister) Schannuth. She was married to Buford White on June 4, 1938; he preceded her in death. She worked at and retired from Lake City Arsenal. She was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church near Hardin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry White; one great-granddaughter, Tina; and one great-great grandson, Joey. Survivors include a son, Buford W. "Sonny" White Jr., Richmond; a brother, Walt Buhrmeister, Hardin; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, near Hardin. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Cemetery.
*Kenneth Wayne Wood
Kenneth Wayne Wood, 67, of Excelsior Springs, Mo. passed away March 17. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, with memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial at a later date. Kenneth was born May 13, 1942, the son of Earl and Beulah Wood. He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1961. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army from 1967-1969. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local Union 1904. He had worked in construction in and around the Kansas City area for 36 years, retiring in 1998. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Vernon E. Wood. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Knappenberger of Excelsior Springs, his sons Royce Wood of Pickerington, Oh., and Jonathon Wood, serving in the US Air Force in Texas. He is also survived by his brothers Donald Wood of Westminster, Ca., Darrel Wood of San Jacinto, Ca., sisters Dolores Roberts of Liberty, Mo., Barbara O’Dell of Lawson, Mo. and Carolyn Crofut of Lawson, Mo., four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his special friend Gloria O’Dell. *Billy Joe Yelton
Billy Joe “Bill” Yelton, 73, of Lawson, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Elizabeth Yelton; grandson, Matthew Yelton; sister, Bobbie Jaydine Yelton Snell; and nephew, Mike Cummins. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Christ Yelton; children, Debra (John) Gray, Daniel (Teresa) Yelton, Diana (John) Lewis and Laura (Bob) O’Dell; sister, Betty (Jerry) Cummins; 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St., Kansas City, followed by services at 10 a.m. Following services, the family will receive friends and family at 1 p.m. at the Lawson Bible Church, 809 W. 6th St., Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to Lawson Bible Church.
