Marion Adams
Marion Andrew Adams, 91, Lawson, Mo., died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron. Mr. Adams was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Gallatin, the son of Earl and Mildred (Stephens) Adams. He was married to Anna K. Linville Adams on June 26, 1937; she preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2004. He worked as a tool and die maker, worked for the electric company, then retired from Whitaker Cable. He was a member of the United Christian Presbyterian Church of Lawson. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Duane Adams; one sister, Margaret Lahue; and one grandson James Andrew Bell. Survivors include two daughters, Carol L. Cohrs, Lake City, Fla., and Margaret A. Workman, Hudson, Colo.; one brother, C.W. Adams, Westbrook, Conn.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Cancer Society.
*Eugene Ailshire
Eugene Bataan Ailshire, 68, Rayville, Mo., passed away Monday, July 5, 2010, at his home. Eugene was born on April 27, 1942 in Ray County, Mo. He owned and Operated Ailshires Advertising for many years. On March, 7, 1980, he married Sharon (Zeller) Ailshier who survives of the home. Besides his wife Sharon, he is survived by two daughters, Angela Shaw and husband Paul of Rayville, Mo., and Brandy “Buba” Ailshire Goff and husband Roger of Rayville, Mo.; one son, William Ailshire and wife Vicki of Cameron, Mo.; one sister, Donna Roberts of Orrick, Mo.; and four Grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Devon, Caleb, Chance, and Kaelen. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Joseph Barlow
Joseph Robert Barlow, 31, Kansas City, Mo., died Thursday, July 8, 2010. Mr. Barlow was born March 30, 1979, in Kansas City, the son of John and Judy (Wheeler) Barlow. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Christine. Survivors include his grandmothers, Christine Barlow and Opal King; his parents; his sons, Zandar and Jayden; sister, Stacy Minnick; brother, John Daniel Barlow; and other relatives. Services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Cremation. Visitation was held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Rose Bellemore
Rosalyn Mae “Rose” Bellemore, 77, Wood Heights, Mo., died Friday, July 9, 2010, at her home. Ms. Bellemore was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of John Wallace and Mabel (Schutter) Watrous. Rose was raised in Michigan and later moved to Phoenix, Ariz. She was a homemaker and later in life had also worked as a home health nurse. In 2000 she moved to Wood Heights from Payson, Ariz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce De Boer; and two brothers, Ivan J. Watrous and Robert Watrous. Survivors include four sons, Dennis Bellemore, Excelsior Springs, Darwin Bellemore, Pahrump, Nev., Michael Bellemore, Glendale, Ariz., and Bruce Bellemore, Wood Heights; one sister, Geraldine Noorman, Grand Rapids, Mich.; one brother, Darwin Watrous, Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Sue Bogue
Sue Bogue, 94, Holt, Mo., died Thursday, July 8, 2010. Mrs. Bogue was born Sept. 8, 1915, in Independence, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Lillian Culver. She grew up and lived in the Independence area until she married her husband, Harley Bogue, in 1933. She was a member of a local garden club and an extension club for more than 40 years. She served as president of both clubs and also as president of Ladies Auxiliary of the Missouri Soil and Water Conservation Districts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley; her parents; one brother; and one sister. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bogart, Kansas City; one son, Ronald Bogue, Holt; four grandchildren, Terry Bogart, Cheryl McNeal, Kim Enriquez and Brian Bogue; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Kearney. Jeffrey Booth
Jeffrey Carl Booth, 53, Kearney, Mo., died Monday, July 12, 2010. Survivors include his wife, Patty; daughters, Erin, Skyla and Amanda Booth; mother, Ruth Booth; brother, Tim Booth; and sister, Anita Henry. Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville. Burial with military honors in Grayson Cemetery. Ryan Bunch
Ryan Glenn Bunch, 24, Richmond, Mo. died Saturday, July 3, 2010, near Orrick, Mo. Ryan was born on December 8, 1985 in Excelsior Springs the son of Bobby Bunch and Jana (Offutt) Bunch. He was a 2004 Graduate of Orrick High School and had attended Vaterott College for electrical training. He Loved farming since he was a small boy and currently worked as a farm hand for Kyle Tracey. He enjoyed farming, music and loved trucks and working on them and just hanging out with his friends. Survivors include his father Bobby Bunch of Richmond, Mo., His mother, Jana Bunch of Orrick, Mo.; four Brothers, Robbie Bunch of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Rylee Bunch of Orrick, Mo., James Jackson of Excelsior Springs, Mo. and Daniel Callaway of Orrick, Mo.; one sister, Erica Endsley of Orrick, Mo.; one Grandmother; Joyce Bunch of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; and one Grandfather, Mel Bowker of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; and nine nieces and nephews. Ryan was preceded in death by grandparents, Fredrick Samuel Offutt IIII, Bertha Mae Bowker and Raymond “Buddy” Bunch. Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Orrick United Methodist Church in Orrick, Mo. Frances Carver
Frances Marie Carver, 75, Lawson, Mo., died Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Ms. Carver was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Kansas City, the daughter of Benjamin and Ruby Crumley Carver. She worked as a caregiver, helping many people in need. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sibling. Survivors include three brothers, Jerry Carver, Kenneth Carver and Leonard Carver; and two sisters, Barbara Gibbs and Marjorie McElwee. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence. A private family viewing was held. Delores Cates
Delores G. Cates, 69, Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, July 11, 2010. Mrs. Cates was born July 7, 1941, in Camden, the daughter of Sidney and Roena (Adams) Taylor. She was a member of the Baptist church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings. Survivors include her husband, Dan Cates, of the home; one daughter, Doris Farage; three sons, Jody Cates, Don Cates and Eddie Cates; two sisters, Florence and Bonny; and two brothers, James and Jimmy. Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs; burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Bruce E. Corey
Bruce Edward Corey, 58, Lawson, Mo., died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at St. Luke’s Plaza Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Corey was born Jan. 6, 1952, in Quincy, Mass., the son of Edward Arthur and Barbara Ruth (Broadbent) Corey. He was married to Lyn Ruth VanRandwyk on July 1, 1978; she preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2005. For more than 30 years he was employed with Alstom Power, Inc., from where he retired in February 2010. He was a member of Christ Chapel Church in Polo. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents. Survivors include two sons, Justin G. Corey and Steven E. Corey, both of Lawson; his parents, Edward and Barbara Corey, Weymouth, Mass.; one sister, Meredith Conrad, Hanover, Mass.; and other relatives.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Christ Chapel Church in Polo. Burial in Prairie Ridge Cemetery in Polo. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Sgt. Robert Crow Jr.
Sgt. Robert Wayne Crow Jr., 42, Kansas City North, Mo., died Saturday, July 10, 2010, while serving his country in Afghanistan. Sgt. Crow was born April 28, 1968, in Victorville, Calif., and moved to the Kansas City area in 2004. He was a member of the Missouri National Guard since 5 and was serving his second tour of duty in the 203rd Engineer Battalion. He worked for Missouri Gas Energy, and previously for Heartland Midwest. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Cyr; and a brother, Robert Crow. Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Beverly A. Crown; children, Robert Wayne Crow III, David Crow, Larry Kern, James Kern, Craig Kern and Meredith Kern; his father, Robert Wayne Crow Sr.; sister, Brenda Lopez; brother, Norman Crow; and 12 grandchildren with a 13th on the way. Visitation was held Sunday, July 18, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty; a funeral service with military honors was held Monday, July 19, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty.
Jim Daugherty
James B. “Jim” Daugherty, 82, Independence, Mo., died Friday, July 9, 2010. Mr. Daugherty was born March 16, 1928, in Lowell, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Sherry (Cutshall) Daugherty; her sons, Rick Francis, Grain Valley, and Randy Francis, Independence; his children, Dee Dee Bass, Portland, Ore., Jennifer Edington, Sugar Creek, Tim Daugherty, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Leslie Tuttle, Excelsior Springs, and Maura Love, Greenfield; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Independence. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hume Cemetery in Hume.
‘Gene’ DeHart
Leslie Eugene “Gene” DeHart, 98, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, July 30, 2010. Mr. DeHart was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Gallatin. He worked in the construction/excavating business. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lucille DeHart; a daughter, Louise Lindsay; and three brothers, Frank DeHart, Raymond DeHart and Ivan DeHart. Survivors include one daughter, Carol Robey; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Liberty Manor Baptist Church in Liberty. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, also at the church. Interment in Glenridge Cemetery. Arrangements are through Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home.
H.A. Dickey
H. A. Dickey, 73, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2010 at North Kansas City hospital.
H.A. Dickey was born March 20, 1937, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Opie and Velma (Summers) Dickey. On June 5, 1959, H. A. was united in marriage to Ruby Alice Robertson in Excelsior Springs. H.A. Dickey was the owner of Wilson Paint & Wallpaper for 34 years. H.A. was Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1986 and then Citizen of the Years in 2000. H.A. was an active member of the Optimist and Quarterback Club for many years. He was a devoted family man. He found great enjoyment in donating his time at the Community Senior Citizen Center by serving meals daily. H.A. was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Don Dickey. In addition to his beloved wife of 51 years, he is survived by one brother, Ken Dickey; one son, Michael Dickey; and two daughters, Kay Carrico and Karla Harness. He was very proud of his six grandchildren, Matthew and Marissa Dickey, Emily and Ian Carrico and Jessica and Jennifer Harness. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Chandler Baptist Church in Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, also at the church. Burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. *Etta Fesenmeyer
Etta Dell Fesenmeyer, 81, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, July 16, 2010. She was born May 15, 1929, at Gravette, Ark., to Harold Keith Runyan and Susie Pearl (Parmley) Runyan. As a child, Etta moved with her family to a farm near Braddyville, Iowa. Here she met and married Dale Fesenmeyer. The couple was married June 5, 1946, and lived in and around Clarinda, Iowa, until 1969. During their time in Clarinda, Etta worked as a bookkeeper and as an office manager at Paris and Dunn, Kearney's Page and Hill, and Farmer's Co-op. In 1969, Dale was employed as an airplane mechanic with TWA and the family moved to the Kansas City area. There, Etta worked seasonally as a tax preparer for H and R Block. After Dale's retirement, the couple moved to Excelsior Springs, Mo. Many of their winters were spent on land they owned near Rio Hondo, Texas. Not only was Etta a loving spouse, mother, grandmother and sister, she was a compassionate and helpful friend and neighbor as well. She was never idle, keeping herself busy as immaculate housekeeper, an excellent cook and an active gardener. The Fesenmeyers vacationed in New Zealand, Mexico and Hawaii and explored the back roads of America in their RV. At home, they loved playing cards with friends, going on walks and reading. Although temporarily sidelined by a back injury, Etta was an energetic member of the local senior exercise group. Etta was preceded in death by a son, Ronald L. Fesenmeyer; and a brother, Harold Lee Runyan. She is survived by her husband, Dale Fesenmeyer; daughter, Linda Jones, Crockett, Calif.; brother, Rev. James Runyan, Bethalto, Ill.; sisters, Patricia Conrad, Glenwood, Iowa, and Beatrice Ross, Oak Grove, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Sarah Herriott, Eureka, Calif., and Aaron Burton, Concord, Calif. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 217 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., with a service immediately following. “Ziggy” Ford
Jazper “Ziggy” Clay Ford, Infant son of Mark and Betty Ford, Richmond, Mo., died shortly after birth Friday, July 16, 2010, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. In addition to his parents, Mark and Betty, survivors include one sister, Kelsie Ford, of the home; one brother, Lee Ford, St. Joseph; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Edna Ray, Richmond; and paternal grandparents, Gary and Anna Ford, Holden. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Graveside services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City. Van Foxall
Van Thomas Foxall, 59, of Camden, Mo., died Tuesday July 6, 2010, at the Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Born September 10, 1950 in Chardon, Oh., he was the son of Ora and Edith (King) Foxall. On February 17, 1991, in Blue Springs, Mo., he was married to Shawna Marie Burton who survives of the home. Also surviving are three children, Van Foxall, Jr. and wife Angela of Richmond, Mo., and Ashley Foxall and Matthew Foxall both of the home; one sister, Judy Foster and husband Larry of Baton Rouge, La.; one brother, David Foxall of Omaha, Neb.and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Foxall graduated from public schools in Ohio and was employed as a tool and die maker for various companies until moving to Missouri and working in North Kansas City. He enjoyed all aspects of cars including working on them and especially spending time with his beloved family whom he adored. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Cremation. Eva Howell
Eva Marie Howell, 78, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Howell was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Brockwell, Ark., the daughter of Oscar Elbert and Sudie Jane (Morgan) Melton. She was married to Glenn Ray Hughes in March 1949; he preceded her in death in September 1982. She was married to Vernon Louis Howell on March 9, 1983; he survives. She moved to Missouri at the age of 16, then worked at various employments following her marriage. After moving to Excelsior Springs, she was employed as manager of the Monterey Motel, night manager at Colony Plaza in the mid-1970s and later as manager of John’s Car Wash, from which she retired in 1983. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs. Following the death of her son, she started the Douglas Hughes Wrestling Scholarship at Excelsior Springs High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Hughes, in 1993 and David Hughes, in 2009; two brothers, Virgil Melton and Orgal Melton; two sisters, Lois Banning and Willeen Wyatt; and a grandson, Jeffrey Hughes, in 1975. In addition to her husband, survivors include two stepsons, James Howell, Excelsior Springs, and Dennis Howell, Merriam, Kan.; one brother, Gerald Melton, Lawson; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a special adopted granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial in Old Union Cemetery, near Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to Midwest Transplant Network.
Patrick Hurd
Patrick W. Hurd, 55, Camden, Mo., died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Hurd was born Jan. 30, 1955, in Kansas City, the son of Wayne F. and F. Marie (Grimes) Hurd. He was a truck driver and a mechanic. He lived in Liberty before moving to Camden in 1993. Survivors include his parents, of Liberty; one son, Kenny Hurd, Missouri City; three daughters, Stephanie Hurd, Kansas City, and Jacquie Hurd and Frances Hurd, both of Missouri City; two brothers, Steve Hurd, Reno, Nev., and Scott Hurd, Garfield, Ark.; three sisters, Christine Hauk, Dallas, Texas, Joanne Hale, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Julie Kelly, Saline, Mich.; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Hisako Hurshman
Hisako Hurshman, 75, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Mo. Ms. Hurshman was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Chiba-ken, Japan, the daughter of Masayuki Watanuki and Miiko Okamato. She was married to Donald Hurshman on June 28, 1960; he preceded her in death on March 5, 2008. She was a homemaker. She had received her United States citizenship in the 1980s. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Hurshman and his wife, Brenda, Rayville, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Polley Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
Mark Hutchings
Mark A. Hutchings, 54, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, July 15, 2010. Mr. Hutchings was born Sept. 22, 1955, in Liberty, the son of James G. and Elizabeth B. Good Jordan Hutchings. He was a carpenter by trade. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard James Hutchings; and his sister, Lisa K. Thogerson. Survivors include one son, Stephen P. LaQuet; daughters, Cameo L. Mathison and Karley K. Vandiver; sisters, Crystal A. Canfield, Laura L. West and Jennifer E. Jordan; and brothers, Dennis D. Hutchings and Jeremy D. Jordan. Memorial services were held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the Good Samaritan Center in Excelsior Springs. Friends were invited to call from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the center. Cremation. “Casey” Johnson
Carl K. “Casey” Johnson, 65, Lawson, Mo., died Thursday, July 15, 2010. Mr. Johnson retired from Burlington Northern Railroad. Burial will take place in Hannibal, Mo. Arrangements are through Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty.
Mary Jane Kelly
Mary Jane (Albright) Kelly, 89, Kearney, Mo., died Monday, July 19, 2010. Survivors include four sons, Loyd Kelly, Vern Kelly, Bobby Kelly and Mark Kelly; one daughter, Cindy Propes; one sister, Edith Spencer; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Kearney First United Methodist Church. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the church. Larry Lockamy
Larry Harmon Lockamy, 61, of Lawson, Mo., passed away Thursday July 22, 2010, at his home. Mr. Lockamy was born July 28, 1948, in Kansas City, the son of Cecil August and Mable Louise (West) Lockamy. He was married to JoAnn Crede on July 31, 1981; she survives. He was a lifelong resident of the Lawson community. He was in the printing trade, having worked for Jefferson Smurfit, which later became Altivity Packaging in North Kansas City, retiring in 2006 as printing manager. He was preceded in death by his father on August 4, 1986; and an infant son, Jay Travis Lockamy, in January 1973. Carol K. Malseed, 80, of 829 N. Market Street, Duncannon, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, July 11, 2010, in her home. Born March 26, 1930 in Cincinnati , Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Martin Kuyper and Jeanne Busching Kuyper. Carol was a Christian and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duncannon, where she was active in Sunday school and church activities. She was also a Brownie leader in Troop 494. She was a Registered Nurse and a graduate of Christ Hospital of Nursing, Cincinnati, and served as a nurse (Lt JG) in the United States Navy. She practiced locally in Community General Osteopathic Hospital and Polyclinic Hospital, both in Harrisburg, Pa., and Miami-Dade Hospital in Miami , Fla. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Chris Hill, husband Jeffrey A. and son, Thomas J., all of Wormleysburg, Pa.; Nancy Dennis and husband, George, daughter, Kelly L. McCullough, busband Whit and their daughters, Molly K. and Ashton E., all of Ashburn, Va.; Becky Malseed and Ed Paumer of Halifax, Pa., and Becky's son, Zachery H. Malseed, of Duncannon; granddaughter, Abbey Jeane Liddick and fianceé, David Dudley, of Duncannon; grandson, Jacob Liddick of Duncannon; son-in-law, Mark Liddick of Long Neck, Del.; sister, Joy Paulter of Palm City, Fla.; nephew, Robert E. Malseed Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Duncannon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Liddick; two brothers, James and Jay; and a sister, Claire Kuyper. Carl Martin
Carl Henry Martin, 83, California, Mo., died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo. Mr. Martin was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Moniteau County, the son of Roy and Edith Jobe Martin. He was married to Ellen Messerli in 1948; she survives of the home. He worked for 30 years as a basketball coach and teacher of math and science at schools in Duenweg, Excelsior Springs, Raytown and Jefferson City. After retirement, he farmed and raised cattle in Moniteau County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett Martin, Robert Martin and Ralph Martin; and three sisters, Ethel Thomas, Ruby Martin and an infant sister. Survivors include his sister, La Homa Singleton, California State; Kelly and Carlene Messerli; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His body, at his request, has been given to medical science. Morris McAdams
Morris F. McAdams, 82, Bethany, Mo. (formerly of Wood Heights, Mo.), died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Crestview Home. Mr. McAdams was born Nov 22, 1927, the son of Clyde and Nellie McAdams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; children, Melissa, Clyde and Chris; and two grandchildren. Survivors include daughters, Sandy, Arizona, Cindy Pyles, Utah, Shirley Roy, St. Louis, and Michelle, Excelsior Springs; sons, Randy, Rick and Robbe, all of Excelsior Springs, Russ, Orrick, and Michael, Lawson; sisters, Doris Jones, Richmond, and Fern, Arizona; 22 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. Private inurnment will take place at a later date; Mr. McAdams was cremated under the direction of Bethany Memorial Chapel in Bethany.
“B.B.” McGaugh
Bartley Baxter “B.B.” McGaugh, 85, Rayville, Mo., died Monday,, July 19, 2010, at his home. Mr. McGaugh was born May 6, 1925, in Kansas City, the son of Cleo and Lillie (Clemmons) McGaugh. He worked for Missouri Pacific railroad and then Union Pacific railroad as a car inspector, retiring after more than 30 years of employment. Survivors include a brother, Bill McGaugh, Excelsior Springs; a sister, Bernadine Bergerhofer, Gladstone; a brother, Bennie McGaugh, Rayville; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. There will be a private burial in the Crowley Cemetery in Rayville.
Robert Moll
Robert Walter Moll, 89, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo. Mr. Moll was born on Feb. 2, 1921, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Walter and Edith (Fager) Moll. He was married to Florence (Proper) Moll, who preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1999. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a switchman for Southwestern Bell for more than 32 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Jackson and Cleora O’Dell. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Moll, Richmond; one son, Gary Moll, Jefferson City; two grandsons, Troy Stigall and Marc Stigall; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond, with Masonic services beginning at 6 p.m. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum in Topeka, Kan., with burial being in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Capt. Donald Scott “Scotty” O’Dell, 46, Largo, Fla., died Thursday, July 15, 2010. A native of Largo, he was preceded in death by his mother Alice Mae (Blyth) O’Dell; and his grandparents, Donald and Opal Blyth and James and Effie O’Dell, all of the Orrick, Mo., area. Survivors include his father, James R. “Jim” O’Dell, Largo, Fla.; a son and daughter Justin and Paige O’Dell, Largo, Fla.; three brothers, James R. “Jim” O’Dell Jr., Doug O’Dell and Wayne O’Dell; a sister, Lourie Brady; and many other relatives in Florida and the Orrick area. Larence Pickering
Larence R. Pickering, 73, Cameron, Mo., died Monday, July 2, 2010, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Mr. Pickering was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Danville, Ill., the son of Larence and Elizabeth (Lake) Pickering. He worked in construction as a cement mason. He was a member of Crescent Lake Christian Center in Excelsior Springs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Luwanna and Barbara; and two brothers, Zane and Roy. Survivors include two daughters, Claudette Smith and Anna Petrusich, both of Lawson; one brother, Perry; two sisters, Ruth and Myrtle; and three granddaughters. Graveside services were set for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Lawson Cemetery in Lawson. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Louise Rayburn
Louise Wilhelm Rayburn, 93, Richmond, Mo., died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Rayburn was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Clifton Forge, Va., the daughter of Chisem Pearl and Lilly Della (Calahan) Wilhelm. She was married to Porter Huston Rayburn Jr. on May 10, 1940. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2007. In 1945, they moved to Toledo, Ohio, where they remained for a number of years before relocating to Kansas City North, Mo. Upon Mr. Rayburn’s retirement in 1973, they moved to their weekend farm in Richmond. In the Kansas City area, Mrs. Rayburn was well known for her love of poodles and highly respected as a poodle groomer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, LaRue, and other brothers, Edsel, John, Forrest, Ray, J.W. and Boyd; and sisters, Violet, Virginia, Betty and Hazel. Survivors include her only child, a daughter, Suzette Louise Rayburn Wells, Richmond; four sisters, Ruby Carroll, Richmond, Va., Aurelia Seward, Waverly, Va., Norma Mathis, Burbank, Calif., Marion Golden, Charlottesville, Va.; one brother, Preston Alvin Wilhelm, Ashland, Va.; and other relatives. Betty B. Robinett, 95, Kearney, Mo., died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice in Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Robinett was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Plattsburg. She worked for Kearney Trust Company for 43 years, most recently as vice president. She attended First Christian Church of Kearney. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Lloyd Albright; a brother, C.O. Dykes; a sister, Louise Dykes DeShon; a niece, Betty DeShon; and a nephew, Corky DeShon. Ivan Eugene “Gene” Rone, 70, Orrick, Mo., died Friday, July 23, 2010. Gene was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Orrick, the son of Samuel F. and Luci (Creason) Rone. He was a loving husband to Anna for 28 years. He was preceded in death by Anna; a daughter, Kathy; and a son, Scott. Maxine Satterfield, 80, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., died July 4, 2010. Maxine was born Dec. 9, 1929 in Oakland, Ark., the daughter of Jack and Nancy (Lee) Griffin who precede her is death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Don Satterfield; two brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband, Jesse Satterfiel; two sons, Daryl and wife Kelly Satterfield and Ronald Satterfield; daughter, Linda Satterfield; two sisters, Delphia Powell and Edna Hannford; and brother, Ray Griffin. Thelma Hazel Shelton, 78, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mrs. Shelton was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Lexington, the daughter of Dan H. and Ruey Ellen (Stephenson) Peterson. She was married to Francis Newlain Shelton on April 5, 1953; he survives. She was employed by the Lexington Trust Company for 40 years, and then later with Excelsior Trust Company and Commerce Bank, from which she retired in 1993. She was a member of the Salem Christian Union Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Judsen, Andrew, Vernon, Earl and Billy Peterson; and one half-brother, Fred Peterson. In addition to her husband, survivors include one sister, Mary Jane Lynn, Lexington; one brother, James L. Peterson, Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. Robert V. Shipps, 84, Shawnee, Kan., died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center. Mr. Shipps was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Powersville, the son of Gilford E. and Nora A. (Wooderson) Shipps. He was a produce manager for many years, working at Mission Highlands and Safeway. He was a longtime member of Shawnee United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a son, Robert L. Shipps. Survivors include his wife, Naomi K. (McMullen) Shipps; daughter, Paula A. Jones, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ms. Short was born Oct. 11, 1910, to Laura and Jess Southwick, Collins, Mo. She graduated from Lawson High School, living most of her life in Ray and Clay counties. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia; a brother, Murl; her husband, Lloyd Short, in 1972; and a grandson, David Eldridge, in 1993. Lorene is survived by three children: son Jerry Short, wife Jackie; daughters, Jo Ann Eldridge, husband Bob; and Hazel Livingston, husband Gene; eight grandchildren: Jeff Short, wife Kathia; Juree Short; Janelle Martinovich, husband Andy; Jennifer Pederson, husband Mark; Jim Eldridge; Larry Daniels, wife Marsha; Leslie Coleman, husband Scott; Becca Lee, husband Godfrey; 17 great-grandchildren: Jamie, Rachel, Kasey Short; Audreauna Short; Emily, Matthew Eldridge; Nicholas Mack, Savanah, Malina, Remy Martinovich; Tanner, Maggie, Carly Daniels; Hansen, Elizabeth, Peter, Forrest Coleman; and Evan Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Lorene’s family was her joy and delight. She loved to travel, play pitch and work crossword puzzles. Mom always made her own decisions: she decided when to sell the farm after Dad died, she arranged putting her home in town up for sale, she knew when to move out of the upstairs apartment in Excelsior to an assisted-care facility in Kearney, she told us when to dispose of her car and when she needed to go to a nursing home, and finally she tried to tell us when she was through with hospitals and she meant it. The family is grateful to the caregivers at Excelsior Springs Nursing & Rehab for their tender care. Lorene was a loving person with a ready smile and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Helen Smith
Helen Carroll (Mullane) Smith, 71, Independence, Mo., died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at her home. Ms. Smith was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Kansas City, the daughter of Jerry and Virginia Mullane. She was married to Terry W. Smith in 1961. She worked for more than 25 years at the Government Employees Hospitalization Association, retiring in 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry W. Smith; and son, Terry P. Smith. Survivors include her daughters, Michelle Smith, Lee’s Summit, and Kathleen Smith, Independence; a brother, Jerry Mullane, Lee’s Summit; sisters, Katie Mullin, Lawson, Pattie Mullane-Vogel, Silverton, Ore., and Peggy Hatfield, Raytown; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lawrence “Sonny” Smith, 89, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, July 10, 2010. Mr. Smith was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Liberty. He worked at Ford Motor Company and Guy’s Foods. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Liberty. He was married to Bessie C. Hines on July 26, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ida Smith; daughter, Marilyn M. Marley; brother, Willard Smith; and four sisters, Vetrol Hall, Edna Lorene Monroe, Cordia Griggs and Bessie Hines. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Smith; two sons, William Lawrence Smith and Charles William Smith; five daughters, Deborah Davis, Lois Smith, Anita Jones, Karen Browning and Lori Smith; sister, Dorothy Marie Jones; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Ruth White Snapp
Ruth E. White Snapp, 94, Pleasant Valley, Mo., died July 4, 2010, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. She was born Oct. 4, 1915 in Kansas City Ks., to Walter and Ruby White. She attended Paseo, Argentine and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1933. On March 6, 1937, she married John Snapp who precedes her in death. She was a charter member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. She also was a member of DAR and Claycomo and Pleasant Valley Senlors. She retired from Sears in 1979. She is preceded in death by daughter, Janice Marlene; sister, Lucille Jahn; and step-sons John and Bill Snapp. Survivors include son, Larry Snapp and wife Jackie; sister-in-law, Betty Snapp; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Ernest Wartenbee
Ernest Wartenbee, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at his home.
Ernest was born on June 11, 1927 in Mosby, Mo., the son of Jess and Lavona (Martin) Wartenbee. He served in the U.S Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. On May 1, 1949, in Richmond, Mo., he married Patsy (Ware) Wartenbee who survives of the home. He was an Insurance Agent and owned and Operated Wartenbee Insurance Agency in Excelsior Springs, Mo. for over 30 years. Ernest was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1001 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., The Masonic Lodge of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and the AARAT Shrine. He was also a member of the VFW Post 236, Excelsior Springs, Mo. He loved his work, and loved being with his family. He enjoyed going to Springfield and Branson, Mo., and spending time with his best friend and wife Patsy. Survivors include his wife Patsy of the home; three daughters, Cindy Montgomery and husband Bob of Pearland, Texas., Rene Battagler and husband Rickey of Excelsior Springs, and Robin Curry and husband Ty of Excelsior Springs; one sister, Nancy Crowley of Kansas City, Mo.; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian Wartenbee; one brother, Don and sister-in-law Carol Wartenbee; and two great grandchildren Lexi and Lilly Haddock. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the VA Hospital, The ALS Foundation, or to Continue Hospice of Kansas City, Kan. Ms. Whitney was born Sept. 8, 1936, in Wolcott, Ark., the daughter of Joel and Mamie Baine. She was an auto worker for General Motors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Whitney; one daughter, Janice Limpert; and one grandson, D.J. Limpert. Survivors include her children, Charlotte Smith, Gary Wasson and Teresa Griffith; one sister, Bertina Stallings; one brother, C.R. Baines; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Carrie Williams, 93, North Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at her niece’s home in Lawson, Mo. Ms. Williams was born July 10, 1917, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Otto W. and Elmetta M. (Brown) Williams. She was a clerk and cashier at the Maytag Company for 35 years, retiring in 1977. She was a 40-year member of Christ Church Unity (now One Community Spiritual Center) in Kansas City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Otto Williams; and a sister, Helen Goddard. Survivors include a sister, Louise Streeter Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
