Ernest W. “Ernie” Gibbs, 71, Rayville, Mo., died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Gibbs was born Aug. 24, 1941, in Altamont, the son of Clifton Wilby and Clara Josphine (Maupin) Gibbs. He married Sandra (Brown) Gibbs on April 15, 1962, in Altamont; she survives of the home. Mr. Gibbs was a farmer, worked for the Standard Oil Company for 20 years, the Kansas City Star for 40 years and started Ernie’s Heating and Cooling. He was a member of the Altamont Christian Church and attended Siloam Spring Baptist Chapel in Excelsior Springs.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Julie Gail Braughton and Connie Sue Gibbs.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, survivors include one son, Jerry Dean Gibbs, Louisburg, Kan.; one daughter, Sally Ann Hayson, Richmond; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild with another on the way.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 15, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 16, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Ayr Cemetery in Altamont.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Ayr Cemetery or Siloam Spring Baptist Chapel.
