Anytime Fitness sponsoring Strongest Man Competition, 5k Walk/Run at Waterfest

Anytime Fitness, for the third year in a row, are sponsoring a 5K Walk/Run and the Strongest Man Competition during Waterfest weekend held July 27-29. All proceeds from the 5K and Strongest Man Competition will directly benefit the Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce and the Educational Foundation.

Event organizer Mark Harmon, who co-owns the Excelsior Springs Anytime Fitness and two other locations with his brother and sister-in-law, Rob and Jessica Harmon, said he encourages everyone to get out and enjoy the events.

“The more the merrier and the more that attend means we get to give more back to education in Excelsior Springs,” Harmon explained.

The race, which boasted 60 runners and walkers last year, is set to take off near Ray’s Diner on Broadway Avenue at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 28.

Registration for the walk/run will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives, 101 E. Broadway Ave.

Harmon added that anyone who is pre-registered prior to June 21 would receive a T-shirt, but shirts can’t be guaranteed for those who wait to sign up on the day of the event.

The same day—but a little later in the afternoon—the Strongest Man Competition will be held near the main stage on Broadway Avenue.  Registration for the competition will be held from noon to 1 p.m., with the lifters set to perform from 1-3 p.m.

The fee to participate in the Strongest Man Competition is $25 per entry, either for the bench press or dead lift.

Harmon said if someone plans to compete in both categories, the combined fee is only $40.  First place will be given in each age and weight division concluding the competition.

As with the 5K, the weightlifting competition will take pre-registration up until June 21, with registration the day of still available.
