WORTHINGTON, Minnesota – An Excelsior Springs High School graduate continues to experience success as a wrestler in junior college. Damon Ashworth, who graduated in 2021, just finished his freshman season at Minnesota West Community and Technical College as a juco All-American. His season included a National Junior College Athletic Association Region 13 championship. In addition, Ashworth finished sixth at the NJCAA national tournament, held March 4-5 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Ashworth advanced to the 165-pound semifinals with back-to-back wins by fall and then a win by major decision, 10-0. Ashworth’s semifinal match ended after nearly two minutes because he suffered an ankle injury. The injury forced him to concede that match and a consolation semifinal match by medical default, putting him in sixth place. The top six in each weight class earned NJCAA All-American honors for the season. He finished his freshman season 22-10. ...
