ES softballers keep rolling after winning streak ends

Excelsior Springs’ season-opening winning streak in varsity softball ended last week.

The Tigers responded by getting on another hot streak.

Sparked by their hitting, the girls won stand-alone games against Oak Park and North Kansas City, hammering Oak Park 12-4 Sept. 9 in Kansas City and blasting Northtown 15-0 Sept. 10 at Excelsior Springs. They then opened the Ozark Fall Festival Tournament Sept. 13 by pounding Springfield Glendale 11-1 to stretch their overall streak to eight games.

But the streak ended Sept. 13, when Excelsior Springs fell 6-1 to Ozark. The Tigers also lost to Republic 5-3 that day.

On Sept. 14, also at the tournament, the girls started their latest hot streak, edging Truman of Independence 10-9 and Nixa 7-5.

Josie Casler led the offense last week, batting .579 over the seven games. The junior’s stat line included 11 hits – six of them extra-base hits (two home runs, three doubles, one triple). Casler also had eight RBIs.
