ESHS boys hoopsters hit skid

Excelsior Springs is looking to start another winning streak in varsity boys basketball. After posting a two-game winning streak, the Tigers had lost five straight entering Wednesday’s road meeting with North Platte. That skid included losses to Richmond, Braymer and Cameron last week in the Richmond Winter Classic. Early on, Excelsior Springs led Richmond in its 67-45 Jan. 22 loss to the Spartans at Richmond Middle School. The Tigers were up 8-7 when the Spartans began a 17-3 first-quarter run. The Spartans led 24-11 lead at quarter’s end. Richmond outscored Excelsior Springs 12-6 to lead 36-17 at halftime. The Spartans edged the Tigers 17-14 the third quarter and both teams scored 14 fourthquarter points. Officially, three juniors led Excelsior Springs offensively – Carson Gholson with 15 points, Jake Zapata with 14 and Easton Ryan with nine.
