Volleyballers look to stay healthy, improve from 2020

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – In a COVID world, keeping the Tigers healthy could be the biggest challenge they face this volleyball season, coach Kathryn Beile acknowledged. “Just because it is a new year doesn’t mean the precedent rules from last year are not still in play, and my hope is to keep the team as healthy (as possible) as we undergo the new school year,” Beile said.

Varsity softballers work to mesh quickly

Census shows decennial declines, growth

RICHMOND – There is plenty to unpack regarding the release of U.S. Census Bureau numbers, including… • If the numbers are accurate, then Excelsior Springs’ population fell quickly and dramatically, but there are reasons for doubt; • Richmond’s population cleared the 6,000 hurdle; • Clay County gained more people in the past decade than the entire population of neighboring Ray County; and • Ray County lost population.

Kenneth Wayne Snelling, 95, of Excelsior Springs, passed away on Wednesday Aug. 18, 2021, at Liberty Hospital.

He was born on Sunday, July 18, 1926, in Tindall, Missouri, the son of the late Sylvester and the late Dortha (née Roop) Snelling.

Excelsior Springs, Missouri -Geri Lee Clevenger, 88, passed away on August 17, 2021.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, visitation at 1:00 PM Monday, August 23, 2021 at Pisgah Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo  

Geri Clevenger was born May 30, 1933 to Raymond and Gladys Fisher in Kansas City Ks. She married C.W. Clevenger in Excelsior Springs, Mo on Sept. 30, They resided in Excelsior Springs.

Danny Lee Russell

Danny Lee Russell passed away on Aug. 11, 2021. He was born on Aug. 5, 1946, to Howard and Wanda (Pierson) Russell in Excelsior Springs. Danny worked for Gilmour Manufacturing Company, formerly Avsco, for 39 years, retiring in 2008. He enjoyed gardening, family time, and going to the lake.

Steven Wayne Carder, 58, of Kansas City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Aug. 17, 2021, at North Kansas City Hospital with family near.   

He was an Excelsior Springs High School Alumni graduating in 1982.  

He leaves behind a daughter, Caitlin Krenke; son-in-law Forrest Krenke; two granddaughters, Averie, 6, and Paislee, 2; sister, Shelly Carder Griggs; and brother-in-law, James Griggs.
