Excelsior Springs is back in the win column in varsity boys tennis. The Tigers edged Odessa Monday on the road, snapping a three-dual losing streak.

Kinley Rogers left this year’s version of the Mineral Water Classic a champion. Twice over.

Excelsior Springs varsity girls soccer coach Brett McKenzie and his Tigers were looking to get back above .500 this week. The girls were 6-6 entering Tuesday’s Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division road meeting with Grandview.

Excelsior Springs is “trending in a good direction” in varsity baseball as April turns into May, according to coach Aaron Holst. Indeed, the Tigers were 14-8 overall and had won four straight entering this week.

CARROLLTON – Orrick senior Anela Fletcher was, admittedly, “a little surprised” at her finish in the girls long jump at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational. Fletcher’s best leap in the event at the April 25 varsity track and field competition at Carrollton was 4.7 meters.

High heat, drop kicks, random observations and points that amuse are all part of the wide, wide world of sports at the community and national levels. Spence Gibbs has gotten me to thinking.
