Celebrate local veterans at these upcoming events

Johnathan Haase State Farm is honoring veterans’ sacrifice and service with their Annual Veterans Day Breakfast 9 a.m., at 228 N. Jesse James Rd.
 
Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018
Join Excelsior Springs Elks Lodge in honoring veterans with Quilts of Valor. Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m., with a luncheon following at noon. The Lodge is located at 421 S. Titus.
 
Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018
Veterans and active duty military can receive a free meal at Excelsior Springs Applebee’s Grill + Bar, 2301 Vintage Court.
 
Barbee EPC is hosting a special service to honor local veterans at 10:45 a.m. After the service, the church is holding a dedication ceremony at their new lighted flagpole, installed by Scout Drew Summers as part of his Eagle Project. After the dedication, a pasta lunch will follow. RSVP’s are suggested to 816-630-3459.
 
Monday, Nov. 12, 2018
Excelsior Springs Walmart will host veterans for a breakfast in their honor from 8-10 a.m. in the Garden Center. A flag ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m. by Excelsior Springs Job Corps NJROTC. Walmart is located at 2203 Patsy Lane.
 
Students and faculty will wear red, white and blue as they host veterans for breakfast at Elkhorn Elementary from 8:20-8:45 a.m. Veterans are invited to stay for a special flagpole pledge ceremony at 8:55 a.m. where students will learn the history of the holiday and honor those who have served our country. Elkhorn is located at 34684 Highway 10.
 
Excelsior Springs Job Corps Color Guard will present the colors at 9 a.m. while participants recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the national anthem at Westview Elementary’s flagpole. Veterans are invited in to eat lunch with their student(s) for no charge. Students are encouraged to bring in a photograph of a special Veteran in their lives to be displayed in the front portion of Westview to honor all of Westview’s special Veterans. Westview is located at 500 N. Jesse James Rd.
 
Excelsior Springs High School is holding an assembly at the Performing Arts Center from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at 612 Tiger Drive.
