New business ‘shakes’ up Excelsior Springs

May 25, 2018 – A new business recently opened a brick-and-mortar storefront on the west side on May 12. Excel Nutrition has been operating out of the Community Center since February, but recently opened their doors to a beautiful new stand-alone location. The store offers a multitude of healthy shakes and smoothies, energizing tea, and aloe.

Luke Perez, owner, has been in the shake business since 2013. He’s partnered with his brothers, Gabriel Perez and Michael Perez. Luke had already had decided to open up a location in Excelsior when he was approached by the Community Center.

“It was fortuitous. They asked us to go there, and we were already planning on doing this location, so it just worked out that way,” said Perez. The Community Center location is still open, in addition to the new store.

Excel Nutrition helps with overall nutrition, in all areas, Perez explained.

“We insist in everything – lose weight, gain weight, build energy. We work with athletes, anything to do with nutrition, we assist in whatever goals people have,” he said.

“We use the Herbalife product, but each nutrition club is owned by an individual, so it’s not a franchise,” Perez explained. Although many of the recipes are tried-and-true, as many of the nutrition clubs share recipes between them, some of them are unique to Excel. For Perez, his current favorite is the Fruity Pebbles shake.

Perez is from Lawson, but has ties to Excelsior Springs through prior employment at The Elms. Furthermore, he’s known for some time that he wanted to base his store in Excelsior, because of the growth in the community. When discussing locations, he would say, “We need to come to Excelsior. Excelsior is growing.”

“So we started one,” Perez said. “The reception has been great. We’ve had a lot of people come in, and a lot of good support. People have been great, the community has been great, and it’s been a lot of fun meeting all the people here.”

The new location is spacious, with calming colors, clean lines, and an open feel with plenty of natural light. Ample seating invites customers to stay and enjoy their order with friends.

“We are really excited to be able to serve people, and be able to give them a positive, uplifting, non-judgmental space to forge relationships with people, and make healthy choices,” Perez said.

Excel Nutrition is located at 145 Crown Hill Rd., with the additional branch still operating in the Community Center. Both locations are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
