New El Maguey opens, offers new features for customers

June 13 2018 – With a quick post on social media on Tuesday, June 12, El Maguey of Excelsior Springs let the whole town know they were opening at 5:00 that same day. Nothing brings people out like tacos and margaritas in a new, spacious location. Even before the doors officially opened for business, a line of at least 30 people gathered, and the parking lot quickly filled.

The new location offers outside dining.

The new location is much larger than the previous. An open-air eating area, complete with a flat-screen TV, runs along one side, giving customers more options. A beautiful fountain stands post outside of a generously-sized waiting area. The restaurant itself is divided into several different eating areas, with generous seating and multiple televisions. Murals pay homage to the area, with The Elms depicted prominently in the front, and a second mural displaying Tiger pride in another eating area.

The décor is a mixture of rustic, with wooden walls and stone elements, and Mexican charm, with arched doorways and windows, and accent walls of terracotta. The menu offers the old favorites, with some new items to try, and an expanded bar area.

One of several murals that showcase hometown pride.

The new location is located at the intersection of 69 Highway and McCleary Road.

Went to ElMaguey and was very impressed in every way. The place is beautiful and the service was great. Even though the house was packed, they served us in quicker than expected. They had lots of workers there and they were constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed and our glasses were full. I used to be a hostess at Hunan and when we had our grand opening after a fire, we could have taken a page out of ElMaguey’s book. We were so overwhelmed. ElMaguey’s employees were calm and cool and very organized. Three cheers to all of them.
Their organization and courtesy will bring customers back, even if it was their first time and they were just curious. Many years of success to ElMaguey.
