The Mug addresses rumor mill: ‘We are not going anywhere’

May 31, 2018 – Kim Meadows, owner of The Mug in downtown Excelsior Springs, has had a busy morning, answering calls, texts, and messages all asking the same question.

“Are you closing?”

The answer is, Meadows says, a resounding ‘no.’

An article detailing all the exciting happenings in downtown Excelsior Springs mentioned that the building, located at 120 E. Broadway, where The Mug calls home, has been sold. It led many loyal customers to panic as they mistakenly believed The Mug would no longer be in their current storefront. Although the article states that The Mug would remain, the rumor that it was closing soon blew up on social media.

Although the building has changed ownership, Meadows will simply continue her lease under the new owner, with no change to business or disruption in hours.

“We are not going anywhere,” Meadows stressed, as her phone rang yet again. “We are here, we are open. In fact, we are growing.” Meadows is referring to the new line of coffee products customers can now find on the shelves in HyVee.

“But people just won’t take ‘no’ for an answer,” Meadows laughed, indicated the many phone calls and messages she has received.

Of course, she does take the many inquiries and concern over the social media rumor of their closing as a compliment, as it indicates the popularity of the coffee shop that has already become a beloved hangout in downtown.

“Come on down and see for yourself,”  Meadows said. “Our doors are open, and they are staying open.”
