After the recent winter storm and with potential weather conditions in the future, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is urging residents to take precautions to reduce their risk of weather-related injuries. Winter weather can create many hazardous situations, including cold temperatures, power outages and unsafe travel conditions.

DAR Marian Anderson Legacy Scholarship accepting applications

Undergraduate and graduate students studying music can apply for the DAR Marian Anderson Legacy Scholarship through January 31, 2025. Sponsored by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the scholarship provides a one-time $5,000 award to one student annually who is pursuing undergraduate or graduate study in music.

Winnetonka’s pressure defense proved too much for Excelsior Springs when the schools met recently in varsity boys basketball. Excelsior Springs committed 29 turnovers in its 74-21 Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division defeat, with Winnetonka scoring 31 points off those turnovers.

ESYWC produces 13 champions, 16 runners-up

The Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club racked up the medals at its own annual tournament. The local club produced 13 champions and 16 second-place finishers at the competition, held Sunday at Excelsior Springs High School.
