Rumore heads to Class 4 state XC meet for Tigers

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Tyler Rumore has achieved the goal many Missouri high school cross country runners strive to attain: a trip to state competition. The Excelsior Springs junior secured his spot in the Class 4 state boys race, scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, by placing eighth in the Class 4 District 8 meet Oct. 31 at Jesse James Park in Kearney. The Missouri State High School Activities Association takes the top 15 runners from eight districts to state. Rumore, who will make his first trip t state, finished the 3.1-mile district race in 18 minutes, 29.6 seconds, topping hi 2019 district time, 19:03, which placed him 19th. He admitted to starting the race a little slower than usual, but then made up a lot of time after the first mile “After the first mile, I settled into my pace and kept that for as long as possible,” he said.
