Excelsior Springs Hospital Director of Social Services Tiffany Danneman visited the Senior Center to discuss the importance of filing a living will and a Medical Durable Power of Attorney (DPA). Danneman explained a living will would allow residents to document their wishes about withdrawing from or withholding life-prolonging medical procedures if unable to make decisions. Similar to a do not resuscitate (DNR) directive, a living would be for those who, under specific circumstances, would like to receive certain medical treatments while possibly denying others. “A living will is the form where you decide your wishes. It’s important that you write this down or tell your family, so they know what you want,” she said. “A DNR is on one end of the spectrum, and the other end is the living will, meaning you want to be resuscitated under any conditions or you’re in the middle and don’t want a DNR unless there is not a chance that you would have quality of life.” She noted the form…
