Area family encourages sustainable living
An area family recently opened Lamp Farm Country Store in order to involve the community in their efforts and to teach families about self-sustainable living.
Originally from the Chillicothe/Trenton area, Greg and Casey Lamp decided they wanted to live and raise their children, Olivia and Madison, now ages 11 and 13, in the country. So in 2010, they bought a 40-acre farm just outside of Lawson with the intentions of raising their own food and living off of their land.
“I was raised on a small farm,” said Casey. “My husband was raised in town and had never really been around farm animals, so it was a big transition.”
The Lamp Farm is known for its organic approach to country living, as well as its goats’ milk products.
The goats for the farm were acquired after the couple searched for a solution to keep several acres of timber on their farm cleared of invasive vegetation.
