‘Big Bus, No Big Deal’ event steers residents toward bus driving career

Area residents had the opportunity to try their hand at driving a school bus on Aug. 6 in the Excelsior Springs High School parking lot. Kim Green, manager of the local school bus company, and her crew set up a driving course throughout the parking lot and brought several buses out to enable residents to experience driving a school bus during their event, titled “Big Bus, No Big Deal.” The Excelsior Springs School District has contracted with Apple Bus for many years, and although the staff remains primarily the same, the company is in transition to become a First Student bus barn. Recruitment events like this one are the norm for First Student, along with community involvement activities. The company recently partnered with Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation for National Go Fishing Day, locally celebrated at Century Park’s Powell Lake and with the Waterfest committee to provide shuttle transportation during the June festival. ...
