Birdsong working to improve the city for 30 years

After conquering multiple positions and working his way up the ladder with the City of Excelsior Springs, the Public Works Director is celebrating his 30-year work anniversary. Chad Birdsong began his career with the city in 1990, working part time in the Parks and Recreation Department. He became the full-time Parks and Recreation Coordinator in 1994 after graduating from Missouri State University. “I would schedule the league sports and take care of park maintenance,” he explained. Birdsong admits he left his job with the city while he was in that for a job at Millers Cabinets. His boss at the time, previous Parks and Recreation Director Steve Zimmerman, told Birdsong he would keep his position open because he knew he would be back. “I enjoyed my time there, but I missed human contact and being able to be outdoors in the fresh air,” stated Birdsong. “After a while, I drove to Steve Zimmerman’s house on a Friday night, and he asked when I wanted to start back.” Birdsong also…
