Bond reduced for Rayville man facing felony charge

A Rayville man facing felony and misdemeanor charges has been released from custody after a judge reduced his bond.Following an August vehicle theft investigation, Gregory Don Marrant, 36, was charged with a class D felony of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and a class B misdemeanor of firstdegree trespassing.Marrant appeared before Eighth Judicial Circuit Associate Judge Lori Jeanette Baskins for a release hearing after previously entering a not guilty plea to both charges. He appeared in custody with his public defender, Rebecca Abeln, and asked the court to modify the original bond, which had been set at $10,000 cash or corporate surety with special conditions.During the hearing, Baskins reviewed Marrant’s ability to pay and evaluated non-monetary conditions before determining that “new, different or additional requirements for release are necessary.” Baskins modified the release terms after...
