Bond reduced for woman facing 3 felony charges

An Excelsior Springs woman who is facing three felony charges was granted a bond reduction this week in Eighth Judicial Circuit Court. Sylvia Loy, 37, is charged with first-degree assault or attempt, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. She appeared before Judge Lori. J Baskins on Dec. 12 at Ray County Courthouse, for a bond appearance hearing. Loy’s public defender, Rebecca M. Abeln, requested her client be released on her own recognizance (ROR) due to Loy having children in her home needs to care for. “The most my client would be able to post is $500, maybe $1, 000,” Abeln said. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Tara Medlin objected to an ROR bond but did not object to the bond being reduced. Judge Baskins ordered the bond be changed from no bond allowed to $5,000 cash or corporate surety with conditions of release to include: must appear in court as required, must submit to all orders, shall not commit any new offenses, shall not tamper with any victims or witnesses,…
