Breast health symposium aims to remove barriers to care

Removing barriers to breast healthcare is the goal of an upcoming community symposium in Excelsior Springs.

The free Northwest Missouri Breast Health Symposium and Community Resource Fair will be held on Aug. 20 at The Elms Hotel and Spa, following Gateway to Hope’s identification of a need for additional breast health education and resources in the region. Hosted in partnership with the Masonic Cancer Alliance and Dr. Amy Patel, the event will feature a community resource fair, educational presentations and access to mobile mammography services. The fair will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., followed by the symposium from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The event will also feature presentations from breast health experts, including Dr. Amy Patel, who will discuss the current state of breast health in Northwest Missouri, and Stacy Partin, who will speak about the importance of knowing personal risk factors.
