Career center students earn top honors
Two students from the Excelsior Springs Area Career Center earned top honors among the nation’s most skilled career and technical education competitors at the 2025 SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta.Madelyn Throckmorton of Kansas City, and Lawson resident Mason McConnell were recognized at the recent event, which drew more than 6,500 students from across the country to showcase their abilities in one of the world’s largest skill competitions.Spanning 1.79 million square feet, approximately the size of 31 football fields, the championships featured 114 hands-on contests, including robotics, criminal justice, automotive technology, aviation maintenance and public speaking.First-place winners from state-level competitions were invited to demonstrate technical, workplace and personal skills in front of more than 1,200 industry judges and technical committee members.
