City approves grant for downtown wayfinding
The Excelsior Springs City Council recently approved issuance of a grant geared to improving visitor experience in the city’s downtown district.
The council agreed issuance a $50,000 grant from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to Downtown Excelsior Partnership (DEP) to install a new wayfinding system.
Although agreeing to the proposal, Councilman Mark Spohn abstained from the voting on the matter.
“I am on the design committee for DEP and I did not want there to be any conflict of interest,” he said.
According to the project summary, the DEP, Inc, worked with FORA Planning & Design through a grant obtained from the Missouri Main Street Connection and Economic Development Administration to complete a city-wide wayfinding study.
