City to build replacement barn for salt

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city plans a new storage barn for road salt. On Oct. 18, the City Council approved Public Works Director Chad Birdsong’s request to build the facility. Budgeted at $371,031, the project will include building a 65-by-80-foot Clearspan structure, budgeted at $117,625; laying concrete pads for the floor, budgeted at $26,000; and laying a 65-by-50-foot concrete pad for loading vehicles, budgeted at $16,250. In an Oct. 12 letter to city leaders, Birdsong stated road and bridge funding will cover $245,000, with $125,000 from the Capital Improvements Program covering the rest. The city will recover the CIP funding, earmarked originally for the city’s digester, through American Rescue Plan Act funds, he wrote.
