City expands sewer rehabilitation work

Nearly $903,000 in additional work will expand an ongoing effort to rehabilitate sanitary sewer infrastructure throughout Excelsior Springs.

Excelsior Springs City Council members recently approved a $902,841.90 change order with Visu- Sewer of Missouri LLC, increasing the sanitary sewer rehabilitation contract from $1,078,792.50 to $1,981,634.40.

Public Works Director Chad Birdsong said the Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project began May 27. The city had approximately $2.18 million available for construction through the project.

“The initial bid came in lower than the engineer’s estimate, so we’re adding additional line segments to use up as much of the available Army Corps of Engineers money as we can,” stated Birdsong.

Following the change order, $197,297.27 will remain available for future work.

“We wanted to leave a little cushion because sometimes those quantities change a bit,” explained Birdsong.
