Clay and Ray Veterans Association serves community

The Excelsior Springs Clay and Ray Veterans Association is home to five distinct groups – The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the VFW Auxiliary, all serving veterans, their families, the community and students in Excelsior Springs. Each entity that utilizes the Clay and Ray Veterans Association facility operates under its own entity and assists one another in providing for those they volunteer for and serve. “We try to keep funds for veterans as local as possible,” Brenda Spicer, president of the American Legion Auxiliary, said. Spicer explained the American Legion Auxiliary is involved with a project at Excelsior Springs Aspire Nursing Home to create a veteran’s garden. The auxiliary has donated the rock for the project, and the American Legion has donated a flag to hang in the garden, paying tribute to those who have served.
