The Clay County Sheriffs’ Office is hosting a free child safety seat installation and check event on Aug 18 from 2-4 p.m. at the Hillcrest Hope Thrift Store, located at 7 W. Mill Street in Liberty. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), 46% of child safety seats are installed incorrectly. NHTSA urges all parents and caregivers to ensure child car seats for their children are chosen and installed correctly. “Safety is the Department’s top priority and we urge drivers to ensure their child passenger is riding in the appropriate car seat,” said United States Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. During the event, the sheriff’s office will provide education on installing car and booster seats. In addition, car and booster seats will be checked to ensure the proper car seat is used for a child’s age, weight and height and review if the seat is being used properly.
