Detectives are investigating the death of a Clay County Detention Center inmate who died days after an apparent suicide attempt earlier this month.Christopher G. Ballowe, 48, was discovered by his cellmate at 1:52 p.m. on Oct. 10, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). Inmates and detention staff intervened and staff began performing life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived. Ballowe was taken to a hospital, where he died on Oct. 16.Ballowe had just returned from a court hearing at the time of the incident and had shown no prior signs that he was at risk for self-harm, according to CCSO.He was booked into the Clay County Detention Center on Oct. 2 on a felony domestic assault charge and was also being held for violating probation on another domestic assault charge.According to CCSO, the situation is still under investigation....
