Clay County purchases bank building to expand government space

LIBERTY – The Clay County Commission added a building, with plans for use undecided because county financial service employees have moved out of leased space in that building to work in other county offices. “People got shifted over to the Clerk’s Office. The (person) … who was preparing the (commission) agenda and stuff is now over in the main office; she was previously located over in the bank building,” Presiding Commissioner Jerry Nolte said. The reshuffle appears to have worked out, Nolte said. “As far as I know, there have been no involuntary departures and I’m kind of happy about that. You hate to have anybody lose their jobs,” he said. The commission bought the former Central Bank building, 16 W. Franklin St., Liberty, just northwest of the square, at a cost of $660,0000.
