Cooley Lake Art Show draws 12 artists; 20 paintings, photos
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Opening night for the Cooley Lake Art Show drew 12 artists, who displayed 20 works of art – photographs and paintings – on April 8 at the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives.
The kickoff event kept volunteers busy with preparations, including setting a table with the traditional wine and cheese that accompanies art shows.
“We decorated the tables and set up to provide food and drink,” museum volunteer Beth Humphreys said.
Photographer Kandi Harrison showed three pieces at the show, including an eagle after a snowfall. She said she has seen eagles at the lake only twice, capturing the image of one after the snow.
“It was a freak snowstorm. The snow came out of nowhere,” Harrison said, having nailed the scene when an eagle perched atop a pile of tree debris.
A rain storm, catching the eye of painter Denice Belcher, was rendered in oil on canvas.
