Cornerstone Elementary honors local veterans

Cornerstone Kindergarteners thanked local veterans in honor of Veterans Day with handmade gifts, thank you cards and donated goods from family members and local businesses. In light of the holiday, all 63 kindergarten students at Cornerstone Elementary School worked together to give their thanks. Educator Linda Haskell-Sherman said there were 24 goody bags total delivered to the Clay-Ray Veterans Association in Excelsior Springs. She hopes more classrooms get involved because more than 24 veterans are in the community. She explained students began the tradition of making gifts for Veterans in 2021, and Haskell said she loves to connect the students with them and the idea of giving back. “Seeing students learn about our flag, saying the pledge of allegiance every morning, singing “You’re A Grand Old Flag” and learning how to put their hand over their heart when seeing a flag go by in a parade makes me proud to be a teacher in Excelsior Springs,” Haskell-Sherman said. “Students,…
