Many new faces are now a part of various community positions as appointments were made at a recent City Council meeting. John McGovern, former police chief, was appointed to the Excelsior Springs Board of Zoning and Adjustments, replacing Ambrose Buckman. “McGovern will be replacing Buckham for health reasons,” said Mayor Mark Spohn. “Brent McElwee will take McGovern’s place as alternate number two.” Sharon Williams was appointed to the Housing Authority Board to replace a vacancy left by Pam Grubbs, and Domonique Purnell was appointed to the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee. In other business, Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy requested a resolution of support for the Missouri State Historic Preservation Grant for the Isley neighborhood, and the Missouri State Historic Preservation Grant for local and regional historic preservation education.
