After being nominated by other community members for their outdoor holiday décor, James and Brenda Bailey won the monthly curb appeal award for December. Presented by neighborhood specialist Laura Mize on behalf of Thrive Excelsior’s Housing Task Force, the award recognized the Baileys for their hard work and dedication to their home. Mize noted the contest helps “instill pride in a homeowner’s property.” The Baileys said they have been decorating their home every year since 1986, when they moved into their home off Zay Drive. James said they began decorating their lawn for the community each year with visitors driving by to witness their lighting display. Brenda noted they even receive goodies from those who appreciate their hard work and dedication to the holiday décor. Each item placed in their yard coincides with the winter season, including snowmen, angels, lighted bears, a nutcracker, and a holiday train with a string of icicle lights placed along their home’s gutter.
