District approves insurance assessment after plan closure

The Excelsior Springs School District will pay $630,141 for an insurance assessment after the employee health insurance consortium — which currently covers district staff — voted to close its health plan at the end of the 2025–26 plan year.The payment stems from a decision by the Missouri Educators Unified Health Plan (MEUHP) board of directors to assess member districts and shut down the self-insured program after higher-than-expected claims required a final assessment to cover run-out claims as the program winds down. Under the decision, the health plan will not offer coverage beyond June 30.Excelsior Springs was assessed $630,141 as part of a $7.5 million total assessment distributed among participating districts based on the number of individuals covered under the plan.
