District opts to sell fleet, lease vehicles to save money

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – School district leaders have decided to lease, not own, vehicles. On Oct. 11, the school board contracted with Enterprise Fleet Management Inc. The agreement lets the district sell 17 vehicles “over the next few years” and switch them out for vehicles rented from Enterprise, Superintendent Travis Hux explained in a memo to district leaders. Data show the plan is for the district to have a fleet that is 100% leased starting in 2025. “There’s a lot of great reasons to do it,” Hux told district leaders. Leasing will save money, Hux and Enterprise Account Executive Brandon Scott agreed in speaking with the board. Scott said the district would save $478,000 over a decade – mostly on fuel and maintenance. The district will save on maintenance because the vehicles will be under warranty, Hux said.
