District receives matching funds to train, retain teachers

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Grant funding will help the school district address a dearth of teachers, Area Career Center Principal Mark Bullimore told district leaders when the Board of Education convened Feb. 14 at the Support Services Center. Assistant Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson had received a grant to help the district retain teachers, Bullimore said. Also, the district had received funding to help produce homegrown educators, he said. “That’ll provide us $10,000 that we can put towards the training of the … (teachers), towards sending those kids out to universities to build those relationships … with those teachers,” Bullimore said. “That way, we can continue to get them through the process.” The board approved matching funds from the district for the two grants – a fiscal year 2023 Enhancement Grant and a Program Improvement Grant.
