Downtown draws mostly ES traffic in first quarter

The people who make wintertime visits to downtown Excelsior Springs tend to be local folks. That was one bit of information shared by Lyndsey Baxter, Downtown Excelsior Partnership (DEP) Inc. executive director, during her report of downtown foot traffic to city leaders June 6 at the Hall of Waters. Presented with Power-Point slides, the report during the City Council meeting covered the first quarter of this year, with some comparisons to the first quarters of 2021 and 2020 also featured. Data showed 23.88% of January-March downtown visitors were Excelsior Springs residents – more than double any other community. Rounding out the top five were Liberty, 5.98%; Kearney, 5.27%; Lawson, 5.02%; and Richmond, 3.73%. “When I shared this with our economic team, we were all a little bit surprised at how high that Excelsior percentage was,” Baxter said.
