Eagles donate adaptive swing to Cornerstone

One woman’s dream to help special needs children culminated in the dedication of an adaptive swing Monday evening at Cornerstone Elementary School. The wheelchair-accessible swing platform brings the fun and health benefits of swinging to children who normally miss out because of their special needs. With generosity from the Excelsior Springs Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3917, Cornerstone can provide that experience. The project began with Diana Reinert, past president of the Eagles Auxiliary. When Reinert worked at a Lee’s Summit elementary school as a custodian, she would see kids in wheelchairs or with special needs that would either get walked around on the playground or just sit and watch other people play. “It wasn’t fair,” Reinert said. “I have volunteered for Special Olympics and see what these children can do. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for special needs kids.” With assistance from Cheryl Mick and the Eagles Auxiliary, Reinert pursued her idea,…
