ES boys second, girls sixth at Mineral Water Classic

April 21 was “a great day for Tiger track and field,” according to Excelsior Springs coach Jonah Albertson. What made the day great for Albertson was that 13 personal records were set while the Tigers competed in the Mineral Water Classic at Tiger Stadium. “Performances like this are what it takes to grow as a team,” he said. Team finishes in the annual meet probably made the day great for Albertson, too. The Excelsior Springs boys placed second among 12 schools with 109.5 points. The girls team finished sixth among 13 schools with 60 points. The boys team produced 11 top-four finishes in securing its runner-up spot. Those finishes included two event-winners. Junior Kolt Willis was the top thrower in the discus with a toss of 47.28 meters. Senior Gavin Wilmes won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 42.09 seconds.
